Mr. President: You can't punt on Iraq!

(My new American Thinker post)

It must be frustrating for President Obama these days.  In other words, this is not what year seven of "hope and change" was supposed to look like.  He wasn't supposed to be talking about sending troops to Iraq or fighting over the survival of Obamacare subsidies.

After all, didn't he say that he had ended the war?

Over in Iraq, President Obama has been desperately running out the clock and hoping that the next guy will make the tough call about ground troops.

Yesterday, President Obama announced that 400 advisers will go to Iraq.  We also read that the trainers will outnumber the Iraqi troops.  Is that possible?  Who is going to fight when the fort is attacked?

However, President Obama is not so lucky.  This is June 2015 not 2016.

He will have to do a lot more, as Clay Hanna wrote:
Mr. President, I can’t describe for you how proud I was of your predecessor as commander-in-chief when he made the courageous choice to do what he believed was right, against the advice of the talking heads and politicians, and lay out a bold and aggressive plan to “surge” troops and take the fight to the enemy.
It won't be easy, but President Obama has to make a decision.  We can't continue this silliness of saying that we have a strategy when we don't or saying that we are winning when we are not.  As an old boss used to tell me, make a decision and don't dither.

Yes, polls say that Americans don't want another war.  However, Americans are also concerned about security and overwhelmingly understand that ISIS is a threat.

The time is right for President Obama to act like a president, make a decision, and
then explain it to the people.  We can't go on like this anymore.

Americans will react positively to a plan to defeat ISIS even if it means putting U.S. troops at risk.  President Obama's chief problem these days is that he looks like a man avoiding decisions at a time when a decision has to be made.

Obama’s Pollyanna visions about Cuba

“President Barack Obama chose to make the decision with little explanation or acknowledgement of the true suffering of the Cuban people, suffering due to the rueful policies and acts of the oppressive Castro brother’s unwavering allegiance to their ongoing Communist doctrine.
Although no relevant concessions were made by the Cuban dictatorial regime for President Obama’s personal generosity, the Obama administration was quick to pronounce the actions as something that “would help human rights almost automatically.”
We read in the media daily about the repression in Cuba, a fact that the Obama administration has chosen to ignore.
Who is thinking about the Cuban people?  Not the Obama administration!
