2005: The late Senator Bunning had the right idea

Jim Bunning pitched a perfect game in the major leagues. He faced some of the greatest hitters of his era----Willie Mays, Henry Aaron, Willie McCovey, Roberto Clemente, Ted Williams, Eddie Matthews, Ernie Banks, Mickey Mantle and Harmon Killebrew.

Eventually, he was elected to the Hall of Fame.

Later, Bunning was the Republican Senator from Kentucky.   He was replaced by Senator Rand Paul

Back in 2005, he put an idea on the table.

I liked it a lot:
A 2 year suspension for the first offense of any substance use; plus,
Lifetime suspension for the second.
It's harsh sends the right message.

No steroids, or any other substance, in baseball:

2005: What were we saying about immigration back then?

Matthew Dowd offered these thoughts on Mexican immigration back in 2005.   Frankly, not much has changed.

Dowd is proposing the idea that time will take care of the illegal immigration problem. Dowd correctly points out that birth rates have dropped in Mexico. Therefore, Mexico will have to create less jobs in the future. This is an interesting theory but only a theory.

Dowd turned out to be correct that birth rates dropped in Mexico.   However, Mexico still has a problem keeping its people around.   It's too tempting to walk north and make $ 6 an hour rather than $ 6 a day!

P.S.   It's a complicated topic but this book makes a lot of sense:

This is no longer "resistance".

My first prediction about 2018

Image result for US congress images

It's a year away and a lot can happen both ways before people vote in November 2018.    However, let me make a quick prediction:   The GOP will lose about 10 seats in the House and gain in the US Senate.....there are very vulnerable Democrats in West Virginia, Missouri, Indiana, North Dakota and Montana........and keep an eye in Minnesota if former Governor Pawlenty runs for the US Senate........

The tax law will have some impact.    I believe that we will continue to see growth in the US economy although the real impact of the law won't be really felt until 2019......or ahead of the 2020 election.
