Shame on the Democrats for playing "the race card"

We are down to the last week and the Democrats are running scared.

How scared are the Democrats.   Check this from J W Peters of The NY Times:
"In the final days before the election, Democrats in the closest Senate races across the South are turning to racially charged messages — invoking Trayvon Martin’s death, the unrest in Ferguson, Mo., and Jim Crow-era segregation — to jolt African-Americans into voting and stop a Republican takeover in Washington."
This is shameful but will any Democrat call on the party to stop?

The party's problem is a lack of results, specially if you are African American.

It's time for President Clinton, the party statesman, to say that these tactics are wrong and have no place in our politics.

Beyond politics, these activities divide the county by poising the well.   We don't need more division.

2014: KC vs SF and another great game 7

Let every World Series go 7, unless your team is in and you want a quick sweep.

In 2014, the Royals and Giants gave us a great series that went the distance.

Game 7 was great, specially Madison Bumgarner who had one of the best postseasons of all time.

He threw 52 2/3 innings — more than anyone else ever did in a single postseason — along with a 1.03 ERA.    He topped it off with  five scoreless innings in game 7 on two days’ rest.

KC had the tying run at third but Bumbarner got the last out.    Great work and a fun series!    San Francisco won its 3rd Series in 5 years!

Abortion: The Last Thing Wendy Davis Wants to Be Talking About

Another day, another New York Times editorial to criticize.  Today, we take issue with the one about abortion and Texas:
With a brief unsigned order on Tuesday, the Supreme Court acted to prevent Texas from enforcing two key parts of the state’s 2013 package of extreme new abortion restrictions.
While the legal battle over the provisions continues, and is very likely to land back at the court before long, the order was a significant victory for women in Texas.
The important result is that it will allow more clinics offering safe and legal abortion care to continue operating pending a final court resolution.
Again, the Texas law is not about taking the right of an abortion from women.  Texas cannot do that.  The law was really about the quality of medical care and doctors, as Kristen Powers wrote months ago:
So no, I don’t stand with Wendy.
Nor do most women, as it turns out. According to a June National Journal poll, 50 percent of women support, and 43 percent oppose, a ban on abortion after 20 weeks, except in cases of rape and incest.
One can assume I am also not the only woman in America who is really tiring of the Wendys of the world claiming to represent “women’s rights” in their quest to mainstream a medical procedure—elective late-term abortion—that most of the civilized world finds barbaric and abhorrent.
In many European countries, you can’t get an abortion past 12 weeks, except in narrow circumstances. Gallup reported in January that 80 percent of Americans think abortion should be illegal in the third trimester, and 64 percent think it should be illegal in the second trimester.
Last but not least, Democrat candidate for governor and current state senator Wendy Davis is the last person in the world who wants abortion in the campaign.

As we wrote a few months ago, Miss Davis's website does not highlight her abortion battle from last year.  You will see lots of issues highlighted, but abortion is not among them.

For example, she tells voters about a "filibuster," but it's one about slashing "$5 billion from our public schools"!

This is how she gets around the abortion issue on her website:
Wendy Davis stood for nearly 13 hours to fight against Austin insiders trying to close 60 health centers across Texas that once provided hundreds of thousands of women with care they can’t get elsewhere.
Where is the comment about "reproductive health care"?

Maybe Senator Davis agrees with the Supreme Court.  I can assure that abortion is the last thing that she wants to talk about at this stage of the campaign.

The NY Times is wrong about the Cuba embargo again

Our friends at The New York Times decided to reprint the same long list of reasons for ending the U.S. embargo on the Castro regime in Cuba.

We heard the same tired arguments that lifting the embargo will encourage change in Cuba and will allow American tourists to tell Cubans about freedom, and that doing business with the U.S. will magically bring prosperity to the island.  Last but not least, the Times blamed Cuban Americans for forcing U.S. politicians to stick with the embargo.

The Times did say that Cuba is still a repressive state:
The authoritarian government still harasses and detains dissidents. It has yet to explain the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the political activist Oswaldo Payá.
Here is the problem: lifting the U.S. embargo will not do a darned thing to change Cuba or make life better for the people.  Instead, it will provide the Cuban state companies who do joint ventures with international companies with an opportunity to draw on U.S. export or import credits.

Furthermore, Cuba needs these "credits" because most countries are sick and tired of doing business with the Castro regime and not getting paid on time.  Just ask Mexico and others, who have had to write off or reschedule their debts!

Incredibly, the Times does not call for the release of Mr. Allan Gross in Cuba prior to any conversations about lifting the embargo.  The editorial does not call on the Castro regime to "lift the embargo" on Cuban dissidents or independent journalists.

As a Cuban-American who has grown up in the U.S., I will listen to anyone who can show me that lifting the embargo will help the Cuban people.

So far, no one has persuaded me.  I still think that lifting the embargo will have one beneficiary: Fidel Castro, Inc.!

Do we have a plan to protect our embassy in Baghdad?

How quickly could Baghdad fall?  Very quickly -- and we better have a plan to protect the personnel there.

My fear is grounded on a simple reality:  ISIS is not afraid of President Obama.  In other words, they've concluded that President Obama will not fight them, even if Baghdad falls.

ISIS is not all alone.   Richard Cohen is concerned that President Obama lacks "menace":
"Menace is essential in a world leader if he (or she) is going to be feared as well as admired.
Obama falls into the admired category -- the leader who won the Nobel Peace Prize with mere good intentions, a guy who had a new attitude toward Russia (a reset) and Iran (an approach) and China (a pivot) and, of course, to the Muslim world -- an appreciation from a president who had broken the mold.
We know him now as someone miscast: a rational man in an irrational world."
Yes, that's what ISIS thinks too: Obama lacks menace.  (There is a street translation for "menace," or the thing that President Obama does not have,  but I won't say it here because many ladies read American Thinker)

President Obama's chief problem is the keeps talking about what we won't do rather than we are willing to do defeat ISIS.

Unfortunately, such a message confuses allies, as Bret Stephens wrote.    It tells our allies that we will sit in the bleachers and watch a vicious army rape and cut-off heads without consequences.

It also emboldens enemies and that is why ISIS is planning to take Baghdad and the 1,000 or so US personnel in the US Embassy.   It's only a matter of time and I pray that we have a plan and guys ready to go!

Texas, the Exporter State

On October 13, in 1845, the people of the Republic of Texas voted "yes" to join the Union.  A few months later, Texas became the 28th state.

Over the years, Texas has been the source of great cowboy stories, a repository of myths about everything being big here, and a place known only for oil.  However, today's Texas is about suits, serious economic policies, and a business environment second to none.

We continue to hear about Texas's economic success, from job creation to attracting businesses.

There is another success story.  It has to do with exports, as reported by The Dallas Morning News

1) Texas exported $163.7 billion, ahead of California ($120 billion).

2) Texas beat California on exporting manufactured goods, $126 billion to $70 billion.

3) The U.K., Germany, Canada, Japan, and Spain are the top 5 countries who continue to invest or open facilities in Texas.

They are investing in Texas because of business-friendly policies, the port of Houston (number six in the world) and Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, one of the most important hubs for passenger and commercial traffic.

In so many ways, Texas has a lot to show the nation.
