The immigration bill has a "gang of 8" but not 60 votes!

(My new American Thinker post)

Majority Leader Reid starts with 52 Democrats, 2 independents and now a vacancy in New Jersey.
He needs 60 to send the immigration bill to the floor.

However, David Drucker reminds us that some Democrats are not on board:

"One Democratic strategist working on behalf of immigration reform said Democrats who don't now support the bill include Sens. Max Baucus, of Montana; Joe Donnelly, of Indiana; and Mark Pryor, of Arkansas. Undecided Democrats include Sens. Mark Begich, of Alaska, and Mary Landrieu, of Louisiana, who, along with Pryor, face re-election in 2014.
A second Democratic strategist said proponents have a wary eye on Democrats who voted against the Dream Act - a much narrower measure that would have granted citizenship to some illegal immigrants - in 2010. Those lawmakers include Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., who is up for re-election next year, and Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont."  (David Drucker)

Montana, Indiana, Arkansas, Alaska, Louisiana, North Carolina and Montana again!  That's 7 Democrats who are not going to vote for it.

We also don't know about New Jersey!  Who will Gov Christie appoint?

So Majority Leader Reid will bring 45 Democrat votes to the floor and needs 15 GOP Senators to get to 60!

I think that the GOP should send a message to Senator Reid:  Bring 55 votes to the floor and we will get you over the 60.

The GOP Senate should not "bail out" Senate Democrats who do not want to vote for immigration reform.

Blow up the Immigration reform bill and write a new one

We spoke with Steve A. Camarota, Director of Research, Center for Immigration Studies.

As a supporter of an immigration reform plan, let me make this suggestion to Senator Rubio and the others in the "Gang of 8".

First, start again.  We don't need a 1,000 page bill on the eve of the implementation of ObamaCare.

Second, pass a "border security" bill immediately.  You will probably get 75% of the legislators on this one.

Third, address the issue of young people who are, or the ones brought to the US when they were children.  I think that you will find bipartisan support here as well, specially if you limit to people under 25.

Fourth, hold hearings and discuss the cost of legalizing 10-12 million people.  Bring experts and let's hear about the costs.

Slow down and study this issue well.  I don't think that the public is in the mood for another bill that no one read or understands.
