DNC Chairman Perez and abortion

abortion-anti-hope-mommy-pro-life

We understand that he dialed it back a bit.   Nevertheless, DNC Chairman Tom Perez sent shock waves through the electorate over the weekend.
This is what he said:
Tom Perez became the first head of the party to demand ideological purity on abortion rights, promising Friday to support only Democratic candidates who back a woman’s right to choose.
“Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health,” Perez said in a statement. “That is not negotiable and should not change city by city or state by state.”
“At a time when women’s rights are under assault from the White House, the Republican Congress, and in states across the country,” he added, “we must speak up for this principle as loudly as ever and with one voice.”
Perez’s statement follows the DNC’s controversial embrace of Heath Mello, a Democratic mayoral candidate in Omaha, Nebraska, whose years-long history of voting against abortion rights in the state Legislature drew fire from progressives this week. Daily Kos, a liberal website that raises money for lesser-known Democratic candidates, pulled its endorsement of Mello this week after discovering his history on the issue, and NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue slammed the DNC for adding him to its cross-country unity tour.
So what do you do if you are pro life Democrat?   I guess that you have to choose between your personal values and the “D” after your name.
Frankly, Mr. Perez’ remarks are insane and may reflect the pressure that the party is under to pander to the left.
In the meantime, Mr. Perez should chat with Wendy Davis, the Democrat who lost big in Texas in 2014.      She lost big over abortion, as Michael Barone wrote.

In Cuba, abortion is birth control

cuba-has-a-major-demographic-problem
Someday, we will look back at how the Castro regime devastated Cuba, from the economy to freedom to free abortions.
Dr. Grazie Pozo Christie serves on the advisory board for The Catholic Association.

She recently wrote some very troubling information about Cuba and abortion:
The main form of “birth control” is abortion, my patients tell me. Condoms and pills are hard to get, and they come and go according to the daily whims of the government.
Abortion, on the other hand, is free, ubiquitous, and taught aggressively in state education as an action entirely devoid of moral meaning.
So what is the result of this moral depravity?   As Dr. Pozo-Christie wrote:
“…..women in Cuba have almost entirely ceased to give birth.
In about 50 years, experts predict that over 40 percent of Cubans will be over 60.”
A sad story to say the least.   Or better put, the fruits of a corrupt leadership.

Remember when personal conduct did not affect your job?

Back in 1998-99, many Democrats and liberals defended President Clinton.   My favorite defense was that President Clinton’s private behavior did not affect his job, i.e. “look at your 401-K!” and the unemployment rate was something I heard about on TV back then!
I find this interesting because Bill O’Reilly’s alleged personal conduct did not affect his job either.   After all, his ratings never dropped.
This is why I’ve grown so skeptical of any public figure accused of sexual harassment, specially when we hear about them on The New York Times.
Back in the summer of 1998, when many of us were caught up in the McGwire-Sosa home run chase, this is how some women of the left reacted to the allegations against President Clinton.
This is how the late Marjorie Williams explained it back then:

Their excuses range from the procedural stonewall (“What is important for the American people to know is that there is a process in place to deal with these allegations,” in the words of Senator Barbara Boxer) to the creative inversion (What about Ken Starr’s “humiliation” of the women he dragged before the grand jury?, fumed Representative Nancy Pelosi) to the truly fanciful twist on gender politics (“Not so many years ago, a woman couldn’t be a White House intern,” said a straight-faced Senator Carol Moseley-Braun on Meet the Press).
As Miss Williams wrote further on:
The chief reason for feminists’ continued support of Clinton is clear: Clinton is their guy. Clarence Thomas was their enemy. Bob Packwood, a liberal Republican who was the next habitual boor to walk the plank, was a harder case for feminists, but in the end they tied the blindfold. Clinton, though, is the hardest case, because he is the most reliably supportive president they’ve ever had.
It wasn’t long ago that we made excuses for men who engaged in bad behavior.
Why is Mr. O’Reilly different?   Could it be his pro-life position?   or his support of traditional marriage?  or the War on Christmas?
Put me down as a total skeptic.
