Reporting for duty again

Image result for gitmo obama cartoons
Is anyone shocked?  I am not.  Remember the five Gitmo terrorists exchanged for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl?  It turns out that all five are reporting back to duty, according to the AP:
Five members of the Afghan Taliban who were freed from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for captured U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have joined the insurgent group’s political office in Qatar, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
They will now be among Taliban representatives negotiating for peace in Afghanistan, a sign some negotiators in Kabul say indicates the Taliban’s desire for a peace pact.“
“These people are respected among all the Taliban,” said Mujahed. “Their word carries weight with the Taliban leadership and the mujahedeen.”
Maybe so.  Maybe they are highly respected, but who cares?  They are free men and working for the other side.
I remember the families of the men who were killed in Afghanistan or in a mission to rescue Bergdahl.  The families of dead soldiers don’t get their sons back.  The fallen soldiers don’t get a second chance.  They are dead and buried.
Once again, we see the wishful thinking approach of the Obama administration.  Did we not demand that these five men stay away from leadership positions?
Yes, I understand that you want to rescue or bring home every U.S. serviceman.  Do you give up five of your most senior terrorists to do so?  Do you do so without conditions?
Thank God that we have a new leader in town.

The left freaking out over Bolsonaro

Image result for bolsonaro images

The left is in total meltdown mode over President elect Bolsonaro in Brazil.  He is suddenly a threat to everything, or something like that.

The latest is that he will destroy the Amazon, as we see in this report from the BBC.

The "experts" are saying that the Bolsonaro administration plans to destroy the "rain forest", a rather hysterical accusation to say the least.   After all, how can one presidency destroy the Amazon rain forest?  Have you seen the size of the Amazon area?

The left is also in panic because Mr. Bolsonaro mentioned getting out of The Paris Climate Change Accords.  He said that the accord is hurting Brazil's interests.

A day ago, Mr. Bolsonaro backed off his remarks and will not pull out of the accords after all.  Nevertheless, the left is afraid that he may revisit this topic later.

The sad truth is that the left does not understand why Mr. Bolsonaro was elected.  It had nothing to do with the Amazon rain forest or other left wing pet issues.

He was elected because Brazilians were sick and tired of their political class and unsafe streets.

Simply put, the international left is obsessed with "climate change".  The voters in Brazil want safe streets.

La Isla de Pinos, the other island of Cuba

For many of us, La Isla de Pinos is the place where many of our relatives spent time in Castro’s political prisons.   In the late 1960s, Castro changed the name to “La Isla de la Juventud” trying to turn the isolated island into some kind of indoctrination school for young minds.
Today, the small island is detached from Cuba and the rest of the world.
I found this article rather interesting and instructive.  It taught me a few things about the island and its complicated history:
“Some places are blessed by geography, with a deep harbor, mighty river or abundant natural resources.  Then there are places where geography is more of a curse. In the absence of any distinctive feature or economic purpose, they appear like a blank slate, inviting grandiose schemes and outsize ambitions.  Cuba’s Isla de la Juventud, the “Isle of Youth,” is one of those places.”
We often forget about La Isla de Pinos.  Yet, it sits there as another exhibit of the total and complete failure of  Castro’s policies.
