1955: Dodgers won the World Series

The Brooklyn Dodgers finally beat the
Yankees in 1955 after losing to them in 1947, 1949, 1952, and 1953.    Of course, those were the days when only 2 teams advanced to the post season.

I love reading everything about these Dodgers.  The Dodgers had a relationship with the fans of Brooklyn that no other team in baseball ever had, or perhaps never will.  The borough literally lived and died with their team.

October 5, 1953: Billy Martin and Yankees won their 5th title in a row

Yogi Berra died a few years ago.  He was one of the Yankees on that team that won their 5th series in a row in 1953.

Game 7 was tied going in to the bottom of the ninth and Billy Martin drove in the winning run for title # 5.

By the way, Phil Rizzuto, another one of the 12 who played in all 5 titles, wrote a wonderful book about the legendary teams.

The 1998-2000 Yankees won 3 in a row and so did the 1972-74 Oakland A's.  No one has come close to winning 5 since!
