The other scandal is our lack of job creation

(My new American Thinker post)

We got a new unemployment rate.    However, don't spend a lot of time looking at that number.  It does not really tell you the truth about the US economy.

The scandal is that we've just celebrated the 4th anniversary of a stimulus that did not stimulate.

Didn't the White House call it the "Recovery and Reinvestment" act?  Isn't this the same White House that called it "The Affordable Health Care Act"?

Edward Lazear posted a great analysis in The Wall Street Journal:

"While the unemployment rate has fallen over the past 3½ years, the employment-to-population ratio has stayed almost constant at about 58.5%, well below the prerecession peak.

Jobs are always being created and destroyed, and the net number of jobs over the last 3½ years has increased. But so too has the size of the working-age population.

Job growth has been just slightly better than what it takes to keep the employed proportion of the working-age population constant. That's why jobs still seem so scarce.
The U.S. is not getting back many of the jobs that were lost during the recession. At the present slow pace of job growth, it will require more than a decade to get back to full employment defined by prerecession standards."

Yes, that's the other scandal, i.e. no jobs!

By the way, manufacturing "unexpectedly" declined!  Please read this:

"The nation’s manufacturing output unexpectedly shrank to its lowest level in four years in May, according to a new report, as slowing export growth and tight fiscal policy caused factories to slow production."

So let's look at the economy's box score:  On the 4th anniversary of the "stimulus", we have an unexpected decline in manufacturing and job creation is still a disappointment.

Yes, that's the other scandal, specially the way that this economic downturn has hurt young people, blacks and Hispanics!   Click here for Friday's show:

The anti-Bush is now Cheney on steroids

(My new American Thinker post)

It's getting difficult to  write these posts because this is the "scandal an hour" administration.

We learned today from The New York Times that this is global:

"The federal government has been secretly collecting information on foreigners overseas for nearly six years from the nation’s largest Internet companies like Google, Facebook and, most recently, Apple, in search of national security threats, the director of national intelligence confirmed Thursday night. "

I love this next part, specially on the pages of The NY Times:

"Together, the unfolding revelations opened a window into the growth of government surveillance that began under the Bush administration after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and has clearly been embraced and even expanded under the Obama administration."

"Embraced and even expanded"!

I can hear VP Cheney laughing in Wyoming.

The real problem is not the program.  The "shocker" is that this is coming on the heels of the IRS targeting conservatives, a "data mining" campaign to get "low information voters" to show up in 2012 and the inexplicable naming of Mr Rosen as a 'co-conspirator".

Can President Obama get out of this massive hole?

Yes, but he needs to be proactive and speak bluntly about all of the scandals.

At the same time, don't be surprised if Jay Carney tells us that Pres Obama learned about PRISM when he was watching the evening news!

He is always the last guy to know!  (I think that I can hear Cheney laughing again)

Did Pres Obama go "mute" about D-Day 2013?

Here is a big question:  Did you hear anything from Pres Obama about the 69th anniversary of D Day?

According to Katie Pavlich of Townhall, he said nothing:

"Yesterday was the 69th anniversary of the D-Day invasion and President Obama failed to say anything about it. There is no released statement on WhiteHouse.gov and nothing on the White House or Barack Obama twitter feeds about the anniversary. President Obama did not make any public remarks about the anniversary yesterday, either."

Hard to believe!  Don't they have a calendar in The White House?

We need a scorecard to keep track of the scandals!

I can't keep up with all of these scandals.

The big problem is that the IRS has ruined our faith in the Obama administration.  Forgive us for being a little skeptical about the administration's intentions.

Click here for Friday's show.  We discussed the scandals and the new jobs numbers with Dr Ileana Johnson Paugh:
