Bad timing: A visa for Mariela Castro to coincide with Cuban Independence Day celebrations in Miami?



There is good timing and there is bad timing. 

We learned this week that the Obama administration issued a visa to Mariela Castro, or Raul Castro's daughter.

Mariela's visa was roundly criticized by Dem Senator Menendez of New Jersey and GOP Senator Rubio from Florida. 

Again, what was the reason for this visa?  What is Mariela Castro going to do in the US?  What is the objective of her visit?

I don't know but Mariela supports "same sex marriage" in Cuba.  I'm sorry for being a little cynical but did her support for "same sex marriage" have something to do with her visit?  Is she going to meet with the "homosexual left" in the US?

Shouldn't someone in the media ask Mariela about her father's position on civil rights or free elections for Cubans regardless of their sexual orientation?  Also, will the "homosexual left" remind Mariela Castro that her father's regime was brutal against homosexuals not long ago.  (Humberto Fontova wrote about this over at Babalu today)

It's time for the US to get out of Afghanistan if nobody in NATO wants to fight anymore

During the Bush years, we were told that the Europeans did not like Pres Bush.   

We were told that Pres Bush was "too blunt" and not the kind of "sweet talker" that wimpy Europeans are accustomed to.

We just learned this week that the Europeans are not working with Pres BO either.  France will soon leave Afghanistan.  NATO is now a memory, a World War II memory to say the least.

Pres BO needs to speak bluntly (more like Bush) to the Europeans.  We need to make it very clear:  We fight as NATO or the US will come home and the Europeans can defend themselves.

Since the end of WW2, the US has defended Europe with tanks & troops.  Our Mediterranean Fleet and an Air Force protected them as well.  

The US public supported NATO because it was based on mutual cooperation, i.e. everybody's son was in the fight!

This is not NATO anymore.  NATO is now the US, UK and Canada.  It can not be 3 countries putting their sons in harm's way anymore.

The Afghanistan conflict has lost US support.  Some of the blame goes to the Obama administration's unwillingness to explain what 100,000 of our finest sons are doing over there.

The second reason is that Americans keep reading about their sons dying and European politicians calling for an end to their commitment.

It's time for Pres BO to be blunt:  We leave if no one fights with us.

Pres BO was "the darling" of Europe in large part because he was the American who told them what they wanted to hear.   It's time for Pres BO to tell them what they need to hear:  NATO means that we all fight.....otherwise, we will come home and you guys can defend yourselves.

I guess that it was BO who started the "born in Kenya" speculation

It does not get any crazier than this.

We learned that BO was "born in Kenya".  

Where did we learn that?  We read it in a brochure published in 1991 (and not corrected until 2007) by BO's literary agent.

Let me explain.  

BO's literary agent published a "client" brochure, i.e. list of authors and others represented by the firm.  It included little "bios" about the clients.

BO was listed as "born in Kenya" and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.

The "birthers" need to relax.  It was BO who told the world that he was born in Kenya.

The Rubios are a very nice family

There is a very nice story about Marco & Jeannette Rubio.  He is the son of Cuban immigrants and she is the daughter of Colombian immigrants.

The story is "Meet the Rubios" and worth reading.  It may be your first encounter with this very nice couple from Florida.

The story has a bit of a fairy tale to it.  They went to the same high school in Miami.  They actually met when Marco was 19 and Jeannette was 17.  

Marco went to law school.  She was a Dolphins cheerleader.  They eventually married, have 4 children and live very close to their parents in Miami.

I don't know what Mitt Romney is thinking about that very important VP choice.  However, my guess is that Mario Rubio is very high on the list.

Rubio speaks well and he delivers a conservative message about freedom, free enterprise, personal liberty and a strong belief in traditional marriage.

My guess is that it will be Romney-Rubio.  

I think that you will see Jeannette holding the family bible when Marco is sworn is as VP next January.
