Wednesday's video: Venezuela is a failed state

At what point do we say ‘failed state’?

Venezuela is a story that gets worse every day.  Polio is the latest example:
A case of polio has been reported in Venezuela for the first time in nearly 30 years, according to the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO).
An unnamed child, with no history of vaccinations, from the poverty-ridden Delta Amacuro state has been diagnosed with the condition.
According to Dr Jose Felix Oletta, a former Minister of Health in the South American nation, the last case of polio in Venezuela was reported in 1989.
This is sad and makes me angry.
Why is this happening?  The answer is that Chávez’s Venezuela is failing across the board.
Yesterday, I spoke with a Venezuelan friend in Miami who explained it this way: chronic medicine shortages and hyperinflation in Venezuela mean that getting medicine is impossible.  He confirmed that pharmacies do not have medicine on their shelves.
In other words, a nation of 30 million people has failed so miserably that people cannot buy the most basic medical supplies.
As expected, the Maduro regime is blaming the U.S.  What else do you do when you are a leftist dictator?  My sense is that Trump-bashing is not working because things are so bad that blaming outsiders goes in one ear and out the other.
Last, but not least, this latest outbreak of polio cannot be good news for Colombia or Brazil, a couple of countries getting a daily dosage of refugees escaping the Maduro regime.
Hello, socialism!

The Democrats won't like Doug Schoen's message.............

There are two kinds of Democrats.

In one corner, you have the ones invested in Trump Derangement Syndrome.   Robert Di Niro is exhibit A.

In the other corner, there are Democrats like Doug Schoen:
Instead of building their campaigns on being anti-Trump, candidates in both parties would be wise to develop compelling moderate policy alternatives and a unifying message that can appeal to centrist and independent voters.
To be fair, Schoen was talking to both parties.   Nevertheless, it is the anti-Trump Democrats who should listen and tell Robert DiNiro to shut up!

A solution for NAFTA.........

After the new NAFTA is negotiated, President Trump should send it to the US Senate for ratification.

Back in 1993, NAFTA was approved as an executive agreement, i.e. it required only a majority vote in the US Senate.

It should be approved as a treaty, or requiring a two-thirds vote.  (ARTICLE II, SECTION 2, CLAUSE 2)

We got away from the US Constitution in order to facilitate or "fast track" some of these trade agreements.

Let's go back to treaties.   The end result will be better for all.

Remember when the Democrats looked the other way?

As Jazz Shaw pointed out, Senator Feinstein has a very selective memory:
California Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) showed up on State of the Union yesterday morning and Jake Tapper put the obvious question to her.
Where was all of this outrage when Barack Obama was “cruelly” separating children from their parents and locking them up like dogs in a kennel?
Feinstein’s answer may be an honest one – at least to a degree – but it doesn’t paint her in a very flattering light.
It sure does not.   It also does not make the Hispanic left look very good either.   They stayed dead silent when it happened!

It was quite a night for Hannity

It was quite a night for Hannity:
Fox News' "Hannity" had more viewers than any other program on television Monday night, even beating ABC's hugely popular “The Bachelorette,” as millions of people tuned in to watch President Trump's historic handshake with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Hannity’s show had 5.902 million viewers, according to the Nielsen ratings, while “The Bachelorette” had 5.493 million viewers.
“Hannity” ranked number two after “The Bachelorette” in the key demo of adults 25-54.
Fox News' prime-time lineup was well-represented in the top ten among total viewers. “The Ingraham Angle” had 4.560 million viewers at number four, and “Tucker Carlson Tonight” had 4.222 million viewers at number six.
Hannity’s cable-news competition didn’t fare so well. MSNBC’s three-hour special coverage was ranked 20th with 2.378 million viewers. Meanwhile, CNN’s highly touted new show “Cuomo Prime Time” had 2.362 million viewers, coming in at 21st overall.
Well, congratulations to Sean Hannity and the FOX lineup.    As for MSNBC, it's the Trump Derangement Syndrome network and can't grow beyond that.   CNN is boring and predictable.

California split into 3!

We got some news today:  "California’s 168-year run as a single entity, hugging the continent’s edge for hundreds of miles and sprawling east across mountains and desert, could come to an end next year — as a controversial plan to split the Golden State into three new jurisdictions qualified Tuesday for the Nov. 6 ballot."

This is rather remarkable.   I didn't think that it'd make it to the ballot.

Let me say that this item on the ballot will mean a huge conservative turnout.      It could mean a few surprises in the race for governor,  too.
