Immigration reform and the Democrats think that "hispanos" are stupid!

Just watched former Speaker Pelosi deliver a speech before the Congress.  She was elected as Minority Leader and introduced Mr Boehner as the new Speaker.

During her remarks, ML Pelosi said that we need immigration reform.  She said it was very important.  Her fellow Dems got up and applauded.

What's wrong with ML Pelosi calling for immigration reform?

Well, she never put a proposal before Congress during  her tenure as Speaker.  In fact, she never presented any proposal for a vote.  Furthermore, Pres BO never formally call for a vote either!

Let me say it again:  The Democrats think that Hispano voters are "stupid".

They will continue to believe that as long as Hispanos keep voting for them without demanding the minimum of accountability.

Our unsustainable path under Pres BO!

Pres BO got his "taxes on the rich".  Frankly, that was easy.  It took zero courage to push such a strategy at the last minute.

Unfortunately, we do not have a "tax the rich" problem.  We have a huge spending problem coupled with a lack of presidential leadership.
Professor Samuelson got it right again:

"The "fiscal cliff" is a massive failure of presidential leadership."

Indeed it is.

Pres BO refuses to tackle the entitlement tsunami headed our way.

Social Security & Medicare are unsustainable.  These programs accounted for 44% non-interest federal spending.

Translation: UNSUSTAINABLE.

FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT: The "fiscal cliff" is just the beginning of a bunch of these fights!

So you hated the "fiscal cliff" & up to the last minute votes?

Get ready because there is a lot more coming.  It will happen for two reasons:

1) Spending is out of control; and more importantly,

2) Pres BO will not lead and make a grand bargain that includes spending cuts.

Here is a preview from Conn Carroll:

"First, in about six weeks, the Treasury Department will reach its legal borrowing limit.

At that point, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will not be allowed to finance government spending by issuing new debt and will have to pick and choose which of the federal government’s many spending obligations it will and will not pay. Contra what some on the left believe, the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution does not authorize Geithner to ignore the debt limit. What it does do is obligate him to make sure the federal government pays off its lenders first.

And since the federal government is constantly taking in more money in taxes than it owes in debt service, there is zero danger the U.S. will default on its debt.

But everyone else who gets payments from the federal government will be in danger of not getting paid. Since the federal government plays such a large role in economic affairs this will create chaos in the U.S. economy until the issue is resolved.

Then, after the debt limit is settled, Congress and the White House will have to decide how to resolve the scheduled $1.2 trillion in scheduled spending sequester cuts that were passed into law the last time the debt limit was raised and were delayed for two months as part of last night’s fiscal cliff deal.

Failing to resolve those scheduled spending cuts would again force the Obama administration to stop making payments to many Americans expecting that income.

Then, after the debt limit and sequester is settled, Congress and the White House will have to pass legislation authorizing government funding for the next year.

The Democratically controlled Senate has not passed a budget since Obamacare became law and as a result the federal government has been operating on a series of continuing resolutions ever since.

The last one, passed in September 2012, expires March 27th. If no agreement is made on federal spending before that date, the federal government will be forced to shut down."

Most experts agree that Pres BO got a "little victory" out of this fiscal cliff round.

I don't think that he will be so lucky the next time around.

First, you can file "tax increases" for a while.  There won't be anymore talk of the rich paying their fair share.

Second, Speaker Boehner won't be the face of the GOP in the next round.   The voices of the GOP will be Sen Rubio, the new Sen Cruz from Texas and a bunch of popular governors around the country.

I am not knocking Speaker Boehner.  However, he is not the most media friendly guy in town.  Rubio & Cruz are!

Third, the next debate will be about government spending and the debt ceiling.  The GOP can win those arguments!

Why should Pres BO push immigration reform if "Hispanos" gave him 71% support for doing nothing in his first term?

The Dallas Morning News has a good editorial today calling on Pres BO to do something about immigration reform:

"The president’s words to NBC’s David Gregory are only that — words. What will really matter is whether he puts his muscle into the task this year. We suggest that Obama start by looking at the example of former President George W. Bush. Back in 2006 and 2007, the Republican and his administration constantly worked Capitol Hill to pass a comprehensive plan. They failed, largely because Senate Republicans balked. But the opposition didn’t stop the Bush White House from fully engaging Congress, including recalcitrant Republicans.
Obama may have a similar problem with his own party. The dirty little secret in the 2006 and 2007 immigration battles was that some Democrats were content to let Senate Republicans kill the effort. Labor-friendly Democrats didn’t want a bill, either.
And they may not want one this year. That reluctance is a major reason the president needs to invest in this fight. He must figure out how to bring enough Democrats along, while also reaching out to Republicans."

I'd love to share the paper's optimism.

In reality, "Hispanos" taught Pres BO & Dems an important lesson:  "Keep giving "5 de Mayo" speeches, blaming Republicans and never proposing anything.....keep doing that and we will vote overwhelmingly for you"!

In other words, Pres BO does not fear the "Hispano" vote.  He is convinced that "hispanos" will blindly get on the "si se puede" parade and vote for him.

Am I optimistic about a rational immigration reform?  I am not because the Dem party opposes "work visas", a major ingredient in any immigration reform.

Put me down as a realist pessimist because Pres BO has no incentive to do anything about immigration reform as long as Hispanos keep drinking "el kool aid".

THE TWILIGHT ZONE: Why is Obama going on vacation again?

One of the TV channels had a "Twilight Zone" marathon yesterday.  I actually caught a couple of shows.  I love them!

Pres Obama will sign the new "fiscal cliff" law and head off to another vacation:

"The price tag is in addition to more than $4 million that is already being spent on the Obamas’ Hawaii idyll, bringing the total cost of the excursion to well over $7 million. The added cost was incurred because by the time the Obamas return from Hawaii – whenever that is – the president will have used Air Force One to travel to Honolulu and back twice."
Don't worry.  Pres BO will get his expensive vacation and no one will say anything:

1) The media is not interested; and,

2) The "low information voters", the president's political safety net, will just fall in love with him the next time he goes on "The view" or MTV.

Do you think that you are watching a "Twilight Zone" episode?  I do!
