Dear Elon: Please buy NPR before the wokies kill it

 (My new American Thinker post)

Once upon a time, the NPR station was the only one you could pick up in an office building.  I remember listening to the Ollie North/Contra hearings on my office radio.  The morning and evening newscasts were also good.  Unfortunately, there was no internet to listen to on your computer or anything on FM but music. The AM stations had this loud buzz that made listening difficult.  I should add that I also listened to NPR on Armed Forces Shortwave Radio when I lived in Mexico.

In other words, once upon a time, NPR was something you could listen to.  Recently, it has become the "woke of wokes" and unlistenable.

So NPR decided to get out of Twitter because NPR is too good to hang around with friends in low places.  After all, how dare an NPR reporter post anything in something as irresponsible as Twitter?   Yes, the people who saw nothing in the Biden laptop story are pushing their credibility credentials.

So what happened when they detwittered?  Well, they are learning that clicks have gone away.  This is the story via David Strom:  NPR’s web traffic continues to fall after leaving Twitter.  A decrease of over seven million.

NPR has two problems.  First, they don't understand that stories are now driven by places like Twitter.  Second, NPR was always low key but now they are obnoxiously "low-key woke."  Is there anything more unlistenable than an NPR broadcast an abortion?  Or another interview about systemic racism?   Or another interview with Hillary Clinton about election integrity?  Or another story about how terrible the U.S. is?

So I am calling on Elon Musk to buy NPR, fire 80% of the staff and make it a place for discussion, not woke indoctrination. Make NPR listenable again and I think Elon is the man for the task.

1938: Johnny Vander Meer and back to back no-hitters

On this day in 1938, Johnny Vander Meer became the only pitcher in baseball history to throw two back-to-back no-hitters.
Vander Meer went on to play 13 seasons with a 119-121 record.     He won 49 games and led the NL in strikeouts over a 3-year span before going off to World War II in 1944-45.
His record of back to back no hitters will be very difficult to match or break.

A word about June 15

We remember June 15:

We remember former New York Governor Mario Cuomo who was born on this day in 1932.  He died in 2015.

We remember singer songwriter Harry Nilson who was born in New York City on this day in 1941 and died in 1994.  He was 52 and died from heart complications.  His songs were just great.

We remember Dusty Baker who was born on this day in 1949 in Riverside, California.  He was a great baseball player and now manager.

On this day in 1938, Johnny Vander Meer became the only pitcher in baseball history to throw two back-to-back no-hitters.    Vander Meer went on to play 13 seasons with a 119-121 record.

"The chapel of love" is one of the most popular songs ever recorded.  It was # 1 this week in 1964.  It was also the only big hit by The Dixie Cups

Happy # 74 Dusty Baker, great player and manager

We remember Dusty Baker who was born on this day in 1949 in Riverside, California.

Baker is a rare breed:   a very good player who became a very good manager.

As a player, we remember his bat:  .278 average, 242 HR, 1,013 RBI, 1,981 hits over 2,039 games with the Braves, Dodgers and a bit with the A's at the end.      He played with the LA Dodgers in their 1977-81 championship run.

As a manager, he's won over 2,000 games, the 2002 NL pennant with Giants, the 2021 AL pennant with Astros and several division titles with the Cubs, Reds, Nationals.

Great player and manager.

We remember Harry Nilsson (1941-94)

Harry Nilsson was born on this day in 1941 in Brooklyn, NY.   Someone reminded me that Harry Nilsson died in 1994 or years ago.   He was 52 and died from heart complications.

Nilsson recorded "One" in one of his early LPs and then it was a huge hit for Three Dog Night.
After that, he released "Everybody's talkin", the soundtrack of The Point and "Without you", perhaps his biggest top 40 hit.
