Remember The Ronettes!

The Ronettes were my favorites of the "girl groups" in pop music.

They were Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle, and cousin Nedra Talley.

The girls grew up in New York and had huge hits, such as "Be my baby".  They had great harmonies, unusual hair and very good looks!

So let's remember The Ronettes with "Be my baby" and "Walkin' in the rain".

1968: Lolich beat Gibson in game 7

On this day in 1968, Mickey Lolich beat Bob Gibson to win game 7.

The final score was Detroit 4, St. Louis 1.

Lolich and Gibson were both 2-0 in the series with two complete games each.
Lolich won this one and Detroit celebrated.

1966: Orioles sweep Dodgers

-----------

The 1966 Baltimore Orioles shocked the baseball world by taking 4 straight from the defending champs Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was a classic mismatch on paper, namely because LA had Koufax and Drysdale.   However, it was also a case of underestimating the young Orioles who ended up throwing 3 shutouts and a 0.50 ERA for the series.

Frank Robinson was the MVP but it was the Orioles' pitchers who made the difference.

Koufax retired a month after the Series.   The Orioles came back in 1969, 1970 and 1971.   It was the end of the Dodgers, who did not return to the Series until 1974, and the start of the Orioles who won 4 pennants over the next 6 seasons.
