Killing Mickey by going woke

 (My new American Thinker post)

Are you surprised at the latest bad news for Disney?  I am not.

First, you declare war on parents by pushing the woke agenda in movies and parks.  Second, the parents react by spending their money somewhere else.

Then Mickey loses his stock value:

Disney’s freefall comes as the company has embraced woke, far-left politics, specifically the exposure of young children to radical LGBTQ ideology. In so doing, the entertainment giant has alienated millions of customers and picked a fight with Florida GOP leaders.

Disney shares were down more than 5 percent Wednesday as investors remained skittish on streaming entertainment companies following Netflix’s disastrous first quarter results. Disney+ subscription results recently disappointed Wall Street when the company reported quarterly results in November, causing the stock to tumble.

The Mouse House also faces difficulties in Florida, where the state senate voted on Wednesday to pass a measure that would deprive Disney World in Orlando of its self-governing status.

Poor Mickey.  The crazy left killed you.

I thought that the left got the message when parents delivered a blow to Democrats in Virginia in the last special election. Apparently, the "wokes" thought that Virginia was an aberration and the future belonged to them.  They learned nothing from Virginia, or all of those school board elections from coast to coast that left leftists in fewer positions than they started with earlier.

Now, they face the consequences of explaining their woke philosophies to the bean counters and the people who look at balance sheets for a living.   It's not going well as we can see in business news reports.

What a shame.  Disney entertained generations with wholesome humor and films like "Old Yeller" that we grew up watching.  Honestly, didn't you cry when Travis had to shoot Yeller?   Or "Swiss Family Robinson" surviving in some island and living in that home?

The stock or company had no trouble when they were making those films.   Now they've destroyed their brand name and decades of customer goodwill. Who told the geniuses running Disney that the public wanted to see LGBT-whatever values?

A word about April 22

Facebook to Release 1Q Results April 22 – Adweek

We remember President Richard Nixon who died on April 22, 1994.  He was born in 1913 and the 37th President of the US, 1969-74.   After leaving office, President Nixon wrote some wonderful books, such as "No more Vietnams" and "Memoirs".

You can file this one under strange coincidences:  "The first Earth Day in 1970 on Vladimir Lenin’s 100th birthday?"     In 1990, I wrote a letter addressing the coincidence that Earth Day 1970 was created on the 100th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin’s birthday.  Maybe the whole thing was a coincidence but I doubt it.

We remember Glen Campbell, who was born in Arkansas on this day in 1936.      He died in 2017.  Among his hits were "Rhinestone Cowboy", a # 1 song from 1975, and "Galveston" from 1969.

On this day in 1978,  The Blues Brothers made their first appearance on Saturday Night Live and the rest is history.    They had 3 top-40 hits (“Soul Man,” “Rubber Biscuit” and “Gimme Some Lovin'”),  a #1 pop album (Briefcase Full of Blues) and a 1980 film, "The Blues Brothers".

1968:  Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey" was # 1 this week.   It was a very sad song about a young man who remembers his late young wife.  Yes, it was very sad song that made it in the pop & country charts.

1973:  "Tie a yellow ribbon" was the #1 song in the US.  The song coincided with the release of US POW's from North Vietnam.  It became the unofficial hymn for families waiting for their husbands, sons and fathers to come home.

1967:  Frank and daughter Nancy Sinatra had the # 1 song this week:  "Something stupid".   Father & daughter sounded great.

1993:  The Bee Gees released a new album "Size isn't everything".  My favorite song was "Blue Island".

We say happy # 67 to David Clyde.  In 1973, 18-year old Clyde made his major league debut with the Texas Rangers.   To say the least, Clyde, who had pitched in a high school game a few weeks before, was rushed to sell seats.   Sadly, he was out of baseball in 5 years:  18-33 with a 4.67 ERA.   Honestly, a sad human story.

Happy # 72 Peter Frampton

We say happy birthday Peter Frampton who was born in the UK on this day in 1950

In the summer of 1976, Peter Frampton was on top of the musical world.   His double LP "Frampton comes alive" was # 1 on Billboard USA.    It sold 6 million copies in the US and a lot more elsewhere.

Rolling Stone Magazine ranks this LP # 41 in the top 50 "live" albums.      Frankly, I'm surprised that it ranks that low considering the album's influence on radio.

It featured 3 Top 10 hits:  "Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do".    The last one was 14 minutes long on the LP version!

Great LP and one of those that you should get on CD for your rock collection.

Happy # 67 to David Clyde

David Clyde was born on Friday, April 22, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas.

Wonder how different it would have been if Clyde had gone through the minors and brought to the Rangers later?   We will never know but my guess is that a hard throwing lefty like Clyde would have succeeded, as a starter or closer.

Sad story.
