A nice word for the mothers!

Happy Mother's Day | Mothers day cartoon, Happy mother's day funny ...
Check this out:   Rasmussen Reports posted a great poll back in 2009:
"This Mother’s Day, two-out-of-three adults (66%) believe that being a mother is the most important role for a woman to fill.Only 17% disagree and 16% are not sure. Those figures are similar to our survey conducted this time last year."
This is nice.   I'm not sure about the 17% who disagree.  What about the 16% who are not sure? I hope that their mother did not hear how they voted!

Happy Mother's Day!

May 14, 1787: The delegates started arriving in Philadelphia

On this day in 1787, the story of the US changed forever when delegates from the 13 states met to amend The Articles of Confederation.

It did not really start until May 25 when everybody was in town.

By September, the sessions produced the US Constitution that we know today.    It was subsequently sent to the states for ratification.   The Bill of Rights, or the first 10 Amendments, were added between 1789-1791.

It was a contentious summer.   Let me recommend  "Miracle in Philadelphia" to follow the  day to day stories.

Mother's Day 1967: Mantle # 500

On Mother's Day 1967, Mickey Mantle hit # 500 at Yankee Stadium.

Mantle retired the following season with 536 HR.   Back then, that was third behind Ruth and Mays.   He is 18th on the all-time HR list today.

What if Mantle had been able to play as a DH?     He retired 3 seasons before the AL adopted the rule.     My guess is that he would hit 600 HR with all of those extra at bats.

Mantle played in 12 World Series and hit 18 HR.

We remember Jack Bruce who was born on this day in 1943.   He died in 2014.
CREAM was one of the super groups of the 1960s.  They were Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce.
The band had a great sound and recorded two of rock's super songs: "White Room" and "Sunshine of Your Love".
