Selective indignation and a few other thoughts about the Trump bashing in Hollywood

Two weeks of President Trump and Hollywood is just getting started, as Andrea Peyser is reporting:
This awards season is just getting revved up.
And already, the entertainment-industrial complex, dominated by self-congratulatory leftists, hard-core exhibitionists and gazillionaires and -airesses, some in get-ups that would set back ordinary Joes or Janes a year’s worth of rent money, have issued a collective punch to the guts of folks at home.
No longer is it about inspiring the masses with exceptional talent and artistic beauty. It’s all Trump-bashing, all the time.
How much longer will the advertisers put up with this?   After all, do people really turn in to watch a bunch of actors give us their political opinions?
Also, their selective indignation is amazing.  Did you hear anyone protest about the Cubans that President Obama shut out of the US? Or what about all of those women and children killed by ISIS?
Yes, I understand that it’s a free country and they can believe whatever they want to believe.   However, they should all buy their own time and tell us where they stand.   It’s not proper to use an awards show to do the latest bashing of a Republican president.

Super Bowl: Brady will win # 5 and I won't watch Lady Gaga!

To be fair, I am not a big fan of either team.   Therefore, this is a cold blooded prediction free of any passion.

My feelings would be a lot different if Dallas or Green Bay were playing.

New England will win because they are like the Yankees of the late 1990's.    In other words, they know how to win.

With all due respect to a very good Atlanta team, they have the misfortune of running into the best NFL team of the last 15 years.

Enjoy Super Bowl LI and I am not going to watch Lady Gaga's halftime show.

‘Very bad hombres’ for sure!

Did he really say it?  There is a story circulating in the media that President Trump and President Peña-Nieto had a phone chat trying to patch up last week’s cancelation.  Some say that President Trump said that there are some “very bad hombres” on the border.
“You have a bunch of bad hombres down there,” Trump told Pena Nieto, according to the excerpt given to AP. “You aren’t doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn’t, so I just might send them down to take care of it.”
No one is confirming anything.  So don’t be shocked if this is another one of those news reports about something that really did not happen.  Remember the one about the White House removing Dr. King’s bust?  Also, I have a hard time believing that someone would leak such details!
However, you don’t need to be an expert on the U.S.-Mexico border to know there are indeed many “bad hombres” running around.  My guess is that previous presidents have had this conversation before.  How can you talk about violence on the U.S.-Mexico border without mentioning the people who operate in that area?
Since 2006, when President Calderón employed the military to fight the cartels, it is believed that 80,000 people have been killed.  I keep hearing 100,000 from friends in Mexico.  They tell me that a lot of dead people are not accounted for.
Let’s put that figure in some context.  Mexico has a population of 100 million people.  It would translate into 240,000 in the U.S. over a ten-year period.
We are not suggesting that President Trump send troops to fight cartels.  I also don’t agree that the Mexico Army is afraid to fight these cartels.  In fact, Mexico’s armed forces and police have fought hard and taken casualties against these criminal elements.
I do agree that there are some “very bad hombres” killing a lot of innocent people south of the border.  In fact, this is why we must complete the wall.  These “bad hombres” bring drugs north and take weapons south.  The wall will make their daily routine a lot more complicated.
Yes, very “bad hombres” engaging in terrible killing.

Yankis go home” is now “Yankis to the rescue”

Some of us are old enough to remember the “yankis go home” placards in Cuba.    Today, we learned that American Airlines opened an office in Havana:
American Airlines formally opened an office in Havana on Wednesday, and an executive said the company will move ahead with its plans for Cuba despite uncertainty over what President Donald Trump’s administration will bring.
The inauguration of the office came two months after American Airlines flew the first scheduled commercial flight from the U.S. to Havana in more than 50 years. Several airlines had begun routes to other Cuban cities earlier and before that there were costly charter flights.
The U.S. company said the flight and the office reflected the company’s commitment to doing business on the island after President Barack Obama initiated detente with Cuba.
This is shameful and it may be even illegal given the embargo.
