1917: Father Flanagan established "Boys Town"

It's a great movie.   It's also a true story.   Father Flanagan established "Boys Town", a place for troubled boys.   It is called "Boys and Girls Town" today.    Spencer Tracy played Father Flanagan.

We remember Frank Sinatra (1915-1998)

We remember Frank Sinatra who was born in New Jersey on this day in 1915.  He died in 1998.

We recall one of his great songs, "Autumn in New York".  It feels right even if we are closer to winter than autumn.  The air is cooler.  We can finally shutoff the air conditioning and open some windows.  In the North and East, the leaves are changing and the colors are magnificent.

It's a good day to remember a great song of the season.

Frank Sinatra: Was he the inspiration for Johnny Fontane?

We remember Frank Sinatra today.   He was born in New Jersey on this day in 1915.  He died in 1998.

Was he the greatest male vocalist of the 20th century?   I don't know but he has to be among the finalists.

According to a recent article, Frank Sinatra confronted Mario Puzo, the author of  "Godfather".  According to the story, Sinatra berated Puzo one night in a Los Angeles.  Sinatra was offended that he may have been the inspiration for Vito Corleone's godson or Johnny Fontane.

We will never know but it makes for a great story.
