It's over and President Biden promised no more speeches. I guess that's the good news. No more warnings about threats to democracy, the rich running things and not paying their fair share of taxes.

I like what Miranda Devine wrote about the speech:

His farewell address from the Oval Office on Wednesday night was the last of these scripted delusions, studded with lies and boasts and grandiose lines from history written by others.
The most divisive president in recent memory claimed he had “kept my commitment to be president for all Americans.”
The president whose administration and deep-state protectors bullied social media companies into censoring American speech, including in the New York Post, claimed to champion a “free and independent press.”
The congenital liar whose career is marked by plagiarism, mendacity and corruption warned of a future in which “the truth is smothered by lies told for power and for profit.”
The man whose family raked in millions from selling his influence to shady oligarchs and Chinese Communist Party entities, who just gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to George Soros, railed against “dark money.”
The speech would not have changed a single mind about Biden’s legacy. Nobody is fooled. He also released a farewell letter Wednesday, laughably claiming he has left the country “stronger, more prosperous and more secure.”

That's about it. You know it's a bad speech when the guy who pardoned Hunter Biden is concerned about assuring that others pay their fair share of taxes. It takes a lot of courage to look into the camera and say that. It's amazing.

As farewell speeches go, no one will compare this one to President Washington or even President Eisenhower talking about the military industrial complex. No such luck for Joe. This speech will be like that extra track in the LP that everybody skipped.

1966: The bomb lost in Spain

It wasn't James Bond's "Thunderball" or the story of the famous secret agent looking for lost A-bombs off Bahamas.

It’s a lot more complicated in the real world than novels or movies. Yes, humans get killed when bombs go off by mistake or accidentally.

It started on this day in 1966 when a B-52 bomber collided with a KC-135 jet tanker over Spain’s Mediterranean coast. The collision dropped three 70-kiloton hydrogen bombs near the town of Palomares and one in the sea.

Thankfully, nothing exploded but it caused an international crisis for the Johnson Administration. It must have been a very scary time for the people of Spain!

The 3 times that I was very happy that George H.W. Bush was around….

As we remember President Bush, let me share three times when I literally thanked God that this man was in office.

The first one was March 30 1981, the day of the assassination attempt against President Reagan. I was in Mexico City having lunch with a business associate. Back in the office, I got a call from my mother in Texas breaking the news. I tuned in my shortwave to Armed Forces Radio and got the news reports. We had an office TV with a cable connection to an NBC affiliate in South Texas.

We didn’t know if President Reagan would make it, but at least, I was confident that George Bush was ready to take over.

The second time was during the Gulf War. As you may remember, Iraq started to fire scud missiles against Israel. It was a scary moment because an Israeli retaliation would have probably messed up the coalition, i.e. Arab countries. President Bush picked up the phone and convinced Israel not to do it.

The third moment was the coup in the USSR against Gorbachev. I learned about it early the next morning and saw a photo on TV of President Bush on the phone. He then made a statement to the media and seemed totally in control of a very serious situation.

Yes, I know that President Bush was not perfect, specially when he broke that tax pledge. However, I was always felt safe when that man was in charge.
