They build the tunnels because we keep smokin' the stuff

Another tunnel on the US-Mexico border:    

"A tunnel designed to smuggle drugs from Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego was equipped with lighting, ventilation and an electric rail system, U.S. authorities said Thursday, making it one of the most sophisticated secret passages discovered along the U.S.-Mexico border.     

Authorities seized 8 1/2 tons of marijuana and 327 pounds of cocaine in connection with the tunnel's discovery, according to court records. Three men who authorities say worked as drivers were charged Thursday with possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to distribute. U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy said they face prison sentences between 10 years and life if convicted.    

The tunnel, which zigzags the length of nearly six football fields, links warehouses in Tijuana and San Diego's Otay Mesa industrial area. The area is filled with nondescript warehouses, making it easier to conceal trucks being loaded with drugs.   

The tunnel was shut down Wednesday night, before any drugs made it through undetected, authorities said. Federal agents had the San Diego warehouse under surveillance after being tipped off by an informant who told them that operators bought drills and other construction equipment in August and September."   

Very sophisticated work....don't you think?  

These tunnels are just the latest effort by very well financed cartels who are simply delivering their "goods" to their customers in the US.   

These tunnels are financed by our consumption of illegal drugs and the blood of thousands of Mexicans killed in this cartel war.  

Think about that the next time you use illegal drugs, and remember this: If you smoke it, they will build it (the tunnel).

Licenses for illegals? Illinois is the latest to overlook the rule of law

Before I get a comment from a "Hispano" saying that Cubans had special treatment and have no business "opining about" illegal immigration, let me say this:  

First, Cubans did not have special treatment. Our entry was LEGAL. I understand that there is a debate about the Cuban Adjustment Act (passed in 1966) but it the law of the land.  

My family had to spend 2 months in Jamaica waiting to get "legal entry" into the US.  We were not in Montego Bay on vacation.  We lived in a small room waiting  for "legal entry'.

Please don't tell me that we had "special treatment."

Let me repeat: Our entry was LEGAL. It was an act passed by Congress in contrast to President Obama issuing an "executive order" to go around Congress on "The Dream Act."

Second, this post is about "the rule of law" and respect for those waiting their turn to come into the country legally.

No one knows "the rule of law" better than Cubans who saw a tyrant shut down newspapers, religious schools and govern by decree.

So let me "opine" about this latest illegal immigration insanity.

It makes no sense but Illinois is the latest state to approve this nonsense:    

"The first driver's licenses for immigrants living in Illinois illegally will be issued in December, with officials estimating that as many as 500,000 people could eventually apply for the special permits.    

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White's office announced Tuesday that it will begin accepting applications Dec. 3 on a limited basis. The expected high demand means applicants must schedule an appointment to visit one of four designated offices to complete the tests and paperwork."   

This is crazy.   

First, how do we know that the person applying is who he or she claims to be?  

Second, are we not opening a door for potential terrorists to get a license and gain an identity in the state?  

Third, how do you "legalize" a person who is violating the law?  

Fourth, what is the value of legal residency or citizenship if an illegal immigrant can get a drivers' license, or one of the primary documents issued by the state?  

Fifth, where is AG Holder? Why isn't he stopping Illinois for creating immigration laws? California did the same thing and AG Holder said nothing. I guess that AG Holder is too busy fighting Texas over Voter ID laws.  

Insane. It is cruel to those of us who obeyed the law.

The appeals court gets it right about abortion restrictions

An appeals court has reversed judicial activism and the law passed by the Texas Legislature will stand: 

"The Texas law, passed by the Legislature in July, requires doctors who provide abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the facility where the procedure is performed, among other new rules.
In September, a coalition of abortion rights groups, including Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Reproductive Rights as well as clinics and doctors sued to stop the law. On Monday, Judge Lee Yeakel of United States District Court in Austin blocked enforcement of the law’s requirement of physician-admitting privileges, saying it is “without a rational basis and places a substantial obstacle in the path of a woman seeking an abortion.”
On Thursday, three judges on the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, in New Orleans — Priscilla R. Owen, Jennifer Walker Elrod and Catharina Haynes — allowed enforcement to begin. A 20-page opinion stated there was “a substantial likelihood that the state will prevail,” and that Planned Parenthood and the other plaintiffs had not proved that the restrictions would place an “undue burden” on women seeking abortions. All three appeals court judges were appointed by President George W. Bush, as was Judge Yeakel.
Gov. Rick Perry of Texas praised the ruling, saying that it “affirms our right to protect both the unborn and the health of the women of Texas.”" 

This is about respecting voters and their elected leaders.  I'm glad that this appeals court killed this latest case of judicial activism.
