Happy Mothers Day (and some of my favorite TV mothers)

Mrs. ADAMS O.G. | Carolyn jones, Morticia addams, Addams family

Happy Mothers' Day to all of the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and even those mothers to be.  (Did I miss anyone?)

Over the years, we've loved TV mothers — i.e. all of those "mom" characters we grew up watching.

Here is my list of favorites:

1) Mrs. Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver.  Barbara Billingsley died in late 2010.  She will forever be Beaver's mom and one of the most endearing characters in TV history.  Frankly, didn't Mrs. Cleaver remind you of your mom?

2) Mrs. Ingalls of Little House in the Prairie.  She was just great.  This is a show about the "frontier mother," the courageous woman of the frontier.

3) On a more hilarious note, let me add Mrs. Adams of The Adams Family.  Wasn't Mrs. Morticia Adams just hilarious?  Doesn't every mother have a bit of Mrs. Adams in her personality?

Again, we salute all of the mothers today.  We hope they all have a lovely day.

They're all together ooky, The Addams Family.
Their house is a museum Where people come to see 'em

They really are a scream The Addams Family.

We're gonna pay a call on The Addams Family."

We take a moment to say happy Mothers Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, wives and mothers to be.  Did I miss anyone?

We spoke with Alice Leon, singer songwriter, and Amarilys Gacio-Rassler, author, about the meaning of Mothers Day.

Happy # 81 Tony Perez

La Vida Voices: The Journey of Tony PĂ©rez
(P.S.  You can listen to my show.  If you like our posts, please look for ”Donate” on the right column of the blog page.)
We remember today Atanasio (Rigal) Perez, the pride of Ciego de Avila and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.  He was born in 1942.
Tony broke with the Cincinnati Reds in the summer of 1964.   He went on to have a wonderful major league career:  2,777 games, 2,732 hits, 379 HR, 1,659 RBI and a very good .279 career batting average
Tony’s career was more than numbers. He was the steady bat in a Reds’ team that won 4 NL titles and the World Series in 1975 and 1976.
Willie Stargell spoke for many of his fellow players:
““With men in scoring position and the game on the line…Tony’s the last guy an opponent wanted to see.””
Tony had many big hits for the Reds Machine in the 1970s.   He is best remembered for a big homer in game 7 of the 1975 World Series.    After playing, Tony was a coach and baseball executive.

A word about May 14

We remember May 14:

US history:     On this day in 1787, the story of the US changed when delegates from the 13 states met to amend The Articles of Confederation.    The sessions did not really start until May 25 when everybody was in town.   By September, the gathering produced the US Constitution that we know today.    It was subsequently sent to the states for ratification.   The Bill of Rights, or the first 10 Amendments, were added between 1789-1791.

The story of the West:    The Louisiana Purchase was completed in 1803.    A year later, Lewis & Clark began their mission to explore the lands of the West.   The men returned on September 23rd, 1806, after almost two and a half years.  They brought back tremendous information that led to the settlement of the West.  It must have been an eye popping trip for the men in that mission.

Music files:    Time flies and we recall that Frank Sinatra died many years ago this week.  It seems like it was yesterday that I was driving and heard the story about Sinatra's death on the radio.

Rock groups:   We remember Jack Bruce who was born on this day in 1943.   He died in 2014.  CREAM was one of the super groups of the 1960s.  They were Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce.

Hall of Fame: We remember today Atanasio (Rigal) Perez, the pride of Ciego de Avila and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.  He was born in 1942.  Tony broke with the Cincinnati Reds in the summer of 1964.   He went on to have a wonderful major league career:  2,777 games, 2,732 hits, 379 HR, 1,659 RBI and a very good .279 career batting average.

Baseball notes:    We say happy birthday to Dennis Martinez who was born in Nicaragua on this day in 1954.    From 1976 to 1997, Dennis was a very successful major league pitcher:  245 wins, 3.70 ERA, 122 complete games and a perfect game in 1991.

Dennis broke with the Orioles in 1976 and played for Baltimore in the 1979 and 1983 World Series.
