The Democrats have changed a lot since 1986
Some of us are old enough to remember 1986. It was the year that President Reagan passed a tax reform plan. Someday, some one will look back to 2017 as the year that President Trump passed his tax reform.
What’s the difference between 1986 and 2017? The answer is Democrats.
In 1986, Democrats were happy to support it, as we see in this post from Rachel del Guidice:
More than 30 Senate Democrats voted for President Ronald Reagan’s Tax Reform Act of 1986 — including one still in office today — and conservatives say Democrats today have no reason to vote against a similar tax reform package now before Congress.“If I hear any more Democrats talking about ‘the bottom rate is going up,’ I’ll remind them they might want to contact [Joe Biden, Al Gore, and John Kerry], because they voted with President [Ronald] Reagan to lower that 11 percent rate to zero, just as we are lowering the 10 percent rate to zero as well,” Rep. Kevin Brady, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said at a recent event at The Heritage Foundation.Only three Democratic senators voted against the Republican tax reform plan when it passed the Senate on Jun 24, 1986, and only 12 Democrats voted against the final conference report when it passed the Senate on Sept. 27, 1986, before the legislation was signed into law by Reagan on Oct. 22, 1986.Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who has represented Vermont in the Senate since 1975, also voted for Reagan’s tax-reform package, as did then-Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., who retired from the Senate in 2014.
So what happened? The answer is that this a very different Democrat Party.
In 1986, we had Senator Lloyd Bentsen, a Texas Democrat who wouldn’t recognize what the left has done to his party. Wonder what the late Senator Bentsen would have said about his party nominating a woman for governor whose ladder to fame was promoting abortion?
In fact, Senator Bentsen was the last Texas Democrat to win a Senate election when he was re-elected to the U.S. Senate in 1988. (It was the same year that he was the VP candidate with Governor Dukakis.)
Anne Richards did win the governor’s race in 1990 but that was really a case of Clayton Williams blowing the election with some unfortunate remarks. Governor Richards was defeated in 1994 by then Rangers’ owner George W. Bush.
We still had “blue dog” Democrats in the House back in 1986. Most of them were wiped out in the 1994 mid-term election.
So what is different today? Again, the answer is that the Democrats have changed beyond recognition.

German economist not buying all of "the doom and gloom" from Democrats
A German economist is not buying all of "the doom and gloom" from the Democrats. Instead, he is saying this:
While Americans are anxiously awaiting full details of the tax bill now being finalized in Congress, German economists are warning that the changes sought by President Donald Trump mean that significant amounts of new investment and jobs will shift from Europe to the United States.This is fascinating but it makes sense.
“The tax competition will have a new dimension,” said Christoph Spengel, chairman of the corporate tax department at the University of Mannheim.
Mr. Spengel, who is also a research associate at the Center for European Economic Research, and a group of tax experts at the university have done a detailed comparison of the two countries’ tax systems and published a report under the heading, “Germany loses out in US tax reform.”
Clemens Fuest, who heads the Ifo economic think tank, also said he believed German business would suffer.
“Investments and jobs will migrate to the US,” he said.
We are not suggesting that a change in the corporate tax rate will fix every problem. At the same time, it will bring investment and jobs to the US.

June 2005: An update about Iraq that showed some interesting progress
Back in June 2005, The New York Times ran an interesting article about Iraq.
It is called an update. It shows what's going well and what's not.
There are 160,000 Internet subscribers in Iraq today compared to 1,000 before the war. There are 3.3 million telephone users compared to 800,000 before the war.
So the Iraqis are enjoying their new freedom. The Iraqis are talking and chatting. No one gets killed in Iraq anymore for criticizing the government. No one has to watch their daughter get raped for holding anti-government point of view.
Maybe this is why Iraqi are optimistic.
My favorite number is this: 65% believe that their country is headed in the right direction.
Also, 75% support their new government.
Last but not least, there are 170 independent newspapers and magazines compared to 8 before.
On the negative side, too many innocent people are getting killed. Suicide attacks are up considerably. Iraq has a security problem.
So life is a lot better than people say that it is. is not perfect but neither is Texas.
Yet, it is fair to say that things are better than what the leftist international media is reporting.
This is the problem. international press is bent on highlighting the negatives. They hate Bush so they present a false picture of life in Iraq.
Again, no one is trying to cover up the truth. Iraq has problems. But the leftist media has bigger problems dealing with the truth.

Irrational anti-Trump-ism does not take a rest
Within minutes of the US Congress voting on tax reform, the left went into a totally irrational mode. It is totally insane for two reasons:
1) The Democrats do not have a tax plan. What is it? Did I miss it?
2) The Democrats used to be for lowering the corporate tax rates. I understand that they never called for 21% but they supported they concept. (President Obama called for 28% in 2012)
So what's going on? My guess is that the "donors" have made it very clear to anyone with a "D" next to their name: If you support Trump we will shut off the money or "primary" you!

2017: MSNBC beats CNN
According to the new numbers, MSNBC beat CNN in 2017.
This is no big surprise, or at least it is not for me. Both networks are pandering to the anti-Trump base, or the 3-4 million people who tune in every night to hear every crazy conspiracy theory making the rounds.
Frankly, MSNBC is better at this anti-Trump madness than CNN.
My advice to CNN is to get back to news and drop the anti-Trump panels. It will improve their ratings because they can't compete with MSNBC's prime time hosts and their hatred of President Trump.

Hillary very low and low!
According to a new Gallup, Hillary Clinton is not very popular:
Hillary Clinton's image has declined since June and is now the worst Gallup has measured for her to date. Her favorable rating has fallen five percentage points since June to a new low of 36%, while her unfavorable rating has hit a new high of 61%.So is anyone surprised? This is a woman who has been on an explanation tour for months. She blames everybody but herself.
So why is anyone surprised that the country has a low opinion?
