What will the House of Representatives look like in 2021?

Impeachment and now Iran are consuming public opinion and media coverage.  However, the biggest story of 2020 may be the U.S. House elections.
Will the Democrats hold their small majority, or will the GOP take it back?
My sense today is that the GOP is back in the game, as Barry Casselman wrote over the weekend:
In the U.S. house, the Democrats were heavily favored to keep control even if President Trump were re-elected, but the impeachment activity seems to be changing that. Although the media is making the large number of GOP incumbents retiring a big story, most of those are in safe Republican districts, Perhaps the bigger story is the one being told by former Speaker Newt Gingrich who, in a recent column, cited the record number of GOP congressional candidates, including women and minorities, already running in 2020. With more than 30 seats won in 2018 by Democrats in districts carried by Mr. Trump in 2016, the current backlash to the impeachment, and the strong recruitment of GOP challengers, the early odds favoring the Democrats, Mr. Gingrich contends, are diminishing.
Time will tell, and there is plenty of time for things to go one way or another.
My sense is that the Democrat leadership blew it with impeachment.
Pelosi & Co. caved in to a left-wing base that makes noise but had nothing to do with their having a majority.  The much publicized Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others won’t be invited to campaign in all of those competitive districts in 2020.
The second reason for optimism is that President Trump will be on the ticket.  Also, he seems very interested in getting the House back to advance his agenda in a second term.
Yes, it’s early, but I am feeling good about returning Mrs. Pelosi to the minority leader position.

The UN in 1946

Seventy years ago today, the UN met for the first time.
Wonder what those people attending would think of today’s UN?
The organization has become a meeting house for every form of “anti-US-ism” or anti-Israel on the planet.
Worse than the rhetoric, it is useless, as John R. Smith wrote in 2014:
The world’s self-professed guardians of global order failed in 2011 to save the rebels of Libya from being annihilated by the mad, murderous dictator, Muammar Gaddafi — who, ironically enough — was a member of the Human Rights Council.
In 2007, the U.N. made Iran vice chairman of the Disarmament Commission.
In the same year, Freedom House ranked more than half the 47 members of the Human Rights Council as “unfree” or “partly free.”
In 2008, the U.N. elected as its president Miguel d’Escoto, who won the 1985 Lenin Prize and had served as foreign minister of the communist dictatorship in Nicaragua. Quite a sick joke.
In 2007, the global economic “powerhouse” of Zimbabwe was chosen to head the U.N.’s economic development commission.
Last year, the U.N. wanted the United States to sign its Arms Trade Treaty, which would have surrendered America’s Second Amendment rights, blocked U.S. authority to enter arms trading agreements with its allies, and required the nation to “support weapons collection” and “disarmament” of ex-combatants.
And to add insult to injury, the same U.S. that they criticize pays a bulk of the dues! It is about 22% today, after the Congress objected to the UN’s radical tone.
Back in 1946, the UN sounded like a good idea, specially after the brutal World War II that took so many lives. It was intended to be a place to settle differences rather than fight wars.
Unfortunately, the UN has not lived up to expectations. It’s time to turn the UN building into an apartment complex and create another group of nations by invitation only.
