Joe Biden gets a sexual assault accuser of his own

Image result for joe biden cartoons
Over the years, we’ve cracked a few jokes about VP Biden, from his gaffes to his quick hands.
Yesterday, we learned that a woman is accusing V.P. Biden of a little too much touching, or something like that.  Her name is Lucy Flores:
I found my way to the holding room for the speakers, where everyone was chatting, taking photos, and getting ready to speak to the hundreds of voters in the audience.  Just before the speeches, we were ushered to the side of the stage where we were lined up by order of introduction.  As I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders.  I froze.  “Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?”
I felt him get closer to me from behind.  He leaned further in and inhaled my hair.  I was mortified.  I thought to myself, “I didn’t wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it.  And also, what in the actual f—?  Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair?”  He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head.  My brain couldn’t process what was happening.  I was embarrassed.  I was shocked.  I was confused.  There is a Spanish saying, “tragame tierra,” it means, “earth, swallow me whole.”  I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything.  I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me.  My name was called and I was never happier to get on stage in front of an audience.
Well.  Then she goes on the victim trip about surviving in a culture of “white men” and “machismo.”
What can I say?
I believe that this entire incident speaks volumes about the modern Democratic Party.  My guess is that the party just does not want a white man named Biden on top of the ticket.  So the Dems are dropping this story now as V.P. Biden is contemplating a run for president.
Who knows where this story will go or whether there is more coming?  In the meantime, President Trump must be watching and enjoying the show.

Abortion in red and blue states

Image result for 2016 election map images
Here is an idea.  Imagine that someone who lived in the 1860s made a return visit to the U.S.  He’d look around and say:  “I’ve seen this before.  We fought a civil war the last time that states saw things so differently.”
The divisions over abortion as about as red and blue as they can get.
Up in New York, the legislators cheered abortion at any point in the pregnancy.  Texas’ own Beto O’Rourke said that a woman should decide whether or not to have an abortion.  Other Democrats running for president would rather pander to Planned Parenthood than protect the unborn.
In TexasGeorgia and other red states, legislatures are introducing more and more limits to abortion.
Where do we go from here?
First, it does not look like there is either common ground or the prerequisite for a civil war.  Just ask the grandchildren of the Spanish Civil War who are still fighting it 80 years later.
Second, it confirms the insanity of Roe v Wade.  We wouldn’t be having these debates if state legislatures, not nine justices, had decided the issue.
And last but not least, there is something wrong with the soul of a nation if politicans are willing to shut off a beating heart for the sake of a contribution from a Hollywood freak.

Major League Baseball is looking like Hollywood

Image result for bryce harper images
Go to Hollywood or Broadway and your food server may be a starving actor.   Why?  Because the big stars, the ones that sell tickets, are making most of the money.  On the other hand, the extras are “a dime a dozen” and have to take whatever they can get.
It’s starting to look like that in baseball. Free agency has made the players free to negotiate and the owners free to pick their “extras.”
Commissioner Manfred admitted that this week:
Good but unexceptional veterans must realize teams find them less valuable in the age of analytics, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred maintained ahead of season openers.
Players have expressed anger following the second straight slow free-agent market, one that saw record deals for top stars and plummeting prices for many journeymen.
“Obviously, what the clubs are saying, the Bryce Harpers, the Mike Trouts, these free agents, Manny Machado, they have tremendous value,” Manfred said Wednesday.
Then he cited the example of a 33-year-old player with 1.0 WAR (wins above replacement) last season.
“That price has been disappointing for some players, but that’s the market,” Manfred said. “What we’ve said to the players is, ‘Look, if that’s your issue, you’ve got to tell us.’ That’s a distribution issue. That means some guys are getting too much. Some guys are getting too little. We’re largely agnostic on that one.”
Too much for some, too little for others?  Welcome to free agency 2019.
Not long ago, players could get by on major league experience.
Today, the “whiz kids” in the front office look at your experience a bit differently.  How does he hit lefties?  How many times does he take the first pitch or swing at a strike 3?  It is the kind of analysis that makes a player worth a lot or nothing, no matter how long he’s played ball.
For example, a veteran making $5 million a year can be replaced on the field by a rookie making $300,000.  The baseball value is the same and you can save the money and invest it in the draft or player development.
My guess is that this new reality will come back to the union eventually.  Do they want Bryce Harper to make $30 million a year or a few more veteran guys on the bench?
Forty years later and free agency looks a lot different than it did when Catfish Hunter left the A’s to sing with the Yankees.

It’s Kyoto all over again!

Related image
If you remember “La Macarena” in the late 1990s then you remember Kyoto.
Back in 1997, Senate voted 97-0 to oppose the United States becoming a signatory to any international agreement on greenhouse gas emissions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.  It’s hard to think of a bigger “NO” than 97 “no” votes.
My guess is that Democrats learned a big lesson out of that vote.  In other words, don’t bring anything to the Senate regarding climate change because it won’t pass.  Get around the Senate by signing agreements with other countries, as President Obama did with the Paris Climate Change Accords.
Yesterday, the Senate did it again, as we see in this report:
The Green New Deal, a sweeping Democratic proposal for dealing with climate change, fell at the first hurdle Tuesday as the Senate failed to reach the 60 votes necessary to begin debate on the non-binding resolution, with 42 Democrats and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., voting “present.”
The Democrat response was that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was proposing a sham.  If so, why didn’t the Democrats propose their own green deal and vote “yes” on it?  The real reason is that Democrats didn’t want to go on record supporting a bill that hurt workers in their states.
No collusion, no green deal and baseball starts this week.  Life is good!

Has Mueller set the table for the next scandal?

Image result for mueller cartoons

Looking back, we can say that the media misreported what Robert Mueller was doing.  In other words, this was never an investigation of Donald Trump.  It was really about Russia and the 2016 election.
Are you ready for the next scandal?   When will we see rats jumping ship or people saving their necks?
As we’ve known for years, Bill and Hillary Clinton have a Russian story longer than Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
So let me add my speculation:  What if Mueller picked up some information about the Clintons and Russia?
Again, I don’t know, but the Clintons do have their Russia connections.
Let’s remember the uranium story and the Clinton Foundation.  Did contributions to the Foundation follow the uranium decision?  I don’t know the answer but what if Mueller picked up something that will end up with Utah U.S. Attorney John Huber?
Nobody knows, but we can speculate.  Simply put, you cannot do an investigation of Russia and the 2016 election without picking up something about the two major candidates, Clinton and Trump.
Furthermore, there is the FISA scandal, the FBI texts, and the way that the Obama leadership team tried to protect Hillary Clinton.
Mueller’s work is done.  The real scandal is just starting. Rats will start looking for the exits soon!

2013 show: Cuba: The island of lies

We spoke on Tuesday with Brian Lloyd French, author of "El Mojito".
Brian is a Canadian author who has traveled to Cuba and reported about the island for years.

Brian's perspective is great.  He calls Cuba the "island of lies".   We also discussed the racial problems and continuing economic challenges.

As Alberto De La Cruz pointed out today, Cuba is an island where the elite lives a life of luxury and decadence.

The Democrats have become ‘the Rutles’ of our politics

Image result for the rutles all you need is cash images
Watching the Democrats this weekend reminds me of what a parody of a political party they’ve turned into. This is no longer a serious group.  It’s really Trump Derangement Syndrome 24/7.
First, they told us that Mueller walked on water.  Now, Mueller made mistakes.
They are a joke or the Rutles of our politics.
Forty years ago, The BBC created a parody about the Beatles called the Rutles.  It happened at a time when the music of the Beatles had disappeared from Top 40 radio.  It was replaced by “disco”.  Only Paul was having AM hits.  Records released by John, George, and Ringo weren’t causing much of a splash.
In this context, the BBC decided to have a lot of fun and create a parody of the group.
It was hilarious!
Let’s remember the Rutles:
The 1978 film “All You Need Is Cash,” for which Mr. Idle was co-director (with Gary Weis), writer and star (in multiple roles), introduced the other Liverpool combo and its career-making “tight trousers” to America.”
All you need is cash“?   “Can’t Buy Me Lunch”? “Doubleback Alley” a satire of “Penny Lane”.
The Rutles were created to mock the Beatles.  Today’s Democrats must have been created as a mock political party.
Let them continue their investigation and we may be reminded of that Rutles LP called “Let it rot“!

The socialists endorse Bernie Sanders

Let’s make it official
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the labor-oriented, social democratic political organization, is backing Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in his 2020 run for president. The DSA’s National Political Committee leadership team announced its support for Sanders late Thursday.
“We’re building a mass movement to take on the billionaires and win a society that puts people over profit,” DSA tweeted.
Well, let me add that this is only confirmation of reality. In other words, Senator Sanders is a socialist.
Also, he is not exactly been living like a socialist. According to news reports, he is worth $2 million and owns 3 homes.

Democrats and their choices!

Image result for democrats 2020 images
According to a new poll, Democrats want a white guy on top of their ticket:
Democratic primary voters were read a list of 20 announced and potential candidates for the 2020 nomination. Biden is the top choice at 31 percent, followed by Sanders at 23 percent.
California Sen. Kamala Harris (8 percent) and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke (8 percent) make up a second tier. They are followed by New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (4 percent), Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (4 percent), and New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (2 percent).
To be sure, this is probably another poll that has more to do with name recognition than ideology.  My guess is that it will change when former VP Biden actually goes out and starts answering questions or telling stories or embracing women.
Nevertheless, it shows me the real divide or confusion in the party.
VP Biden and Senator Sanders will have a hard time agreeing on anything except that they think that President Trump is bad.
I also wonder how a Democratic convention goes home excited to campaign for a man like VP Biden.   As a conservative Democrat told me yesterday:   “Nice guy, but have we ever elected an 80-year-old before”?
The Milwaukee convention is 18 months away but this is a party with a huge identity crisis.   The realists, like my aforementioned friend, understand that a leftist message will sink the party.  On the other hand, the delegates on the floor are not going to be crazy about a candidate like VP Biden.
I smell a 3rd party.   Do you?

A bad couple of years for anonymous sources

After the 1961 season, Whitey Ford said, “It was a bad year for the Babe” — a reference to two of his records broken in October of that year.
Well, no records were broken here, but it was a really bad couple of years for those reporters, and their editors, who decided to break stories based on all those “sources familiar with the investigation.”
I wonder if any will have the character to step up and say “we messed up badly.”
I agree with Roger Simon that the media may be suffering the biggest consequences of this investigation:
So there you have it, folks. Two years worth of investigation and millions of taxpayer dollars for that, not to mention hamstringing the president of the United States in his activities almost everywhere he went during the same period.
Proud of yourselves, David Corn, CNN, John Brennan, MSNBC, Adam Schiff, Washington Post, Don Lemon, Eric Swalwell, New York Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., etc., ad nauseam? Think you saved the republic? Actually, you owe Donald Trump billions. You made out like bandits lying through your teeth about him for two years.
I am not sure they made out like bandits, however.
Yes, the Democrats, most of them representing safe districts, will have zero consequences.  At this point, I don’t know how anybody takes Representative Eric Swalwell seriously!
The media won’t be so lucky.  Yes, MSNBC will continue to attract the 3 million people drunk on Trump Derangement Syndrome, but the others will see their ratings or readership suffer.
A bad year for the media.

Hickenlooper has a point

Image result for John Hickenlooper cartoons
Like you, I’m having a hard time following the Democratic candidates running for President, from Beto to Bernie!
It seems like all they do is make statements to appeal to the left-wing crowds showing up at their rallies.  My God, you can’t even get a Democrat willing to say that abortion in the eighth month is more than a talking point about reproductive rights.  These people are automatic responses to any question that comes their way.
I’ve asked myself a few times:  Will any one of these guys and gals ever say something politically incorrect?
My answer came in the name of Governor John Hickenlooper.  He may have said the unthinkable:
Asked by Dana Bash if he would vow to put a woman on his presidential ticket, John Hickenlooper replied, “Of course,” and then said, “How come we’re not asking, more often, the women, ‘Would you be willing to put a man on the ticket?’”
The governor has a good point.
I would advise the governor to go further.   He should ask:  Why aren’t focusing on nominating a ticket that can win 270 Electoral Votes rather than just looking to check off boxes on an identity politics checklist?
I plan to vote for President Trump.  On the one hand, I want the Democrats to keep going lefty “crazy”.  On the other hand, our democracy depends on two serious parties that can discuss real world solutions to our complicated problems.
Maybe Governor Hickenlooper is a ray of hope!

Maybe the Democrats are telling us something!

Image result for democrats images

Is reality finally sinking in?
Let me share a couple of stories from this week.
Over in New York, they want to investigate everyone who had a cup of coffee with then private citizen Trump or his family.   Investigating Trump is about all you hear from New York’s leaders, especially Attorney General Letitia James who is a woman on a mission.
At the same time, the typical New Yorker would rather see his or her leaders concentrate on the state’s high cost of living.   They are voting this way by looking to move out of state:  A third of New Yorkers want out!
Another story is that support for impeachment is down among Democrats, according to this article over at CNN:
Support for impeaching President Donald Trump has fallen 7 points since December, a CNN Poll conducted by SSRS finds, following Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi calling impeachment “so divisive to the country.”
The decline — from 43% in favor in December to 36% now — stems largely from a change in Democratic views on impeaching the President.
So what’s going on?   Is there a connection between these two stories?
Yes, I think that two things are going on.
Democrats are voting with their feet and telling their “blue leaders” to govern, from health care to encouraging Amazon to bring jobs!
It raises a question:   Is there room for a Democrat presidential candidate who runs on a message to cut taxes and stop investigating for the sake of investigating?
I don’t know, but Democrats are telling us something and no one running for President is hearing it.

It’s time for another article about change coming to Cuba

Image result for raul castro cartoons

Like some of you, I check social media for Cuba updates.
This is the latest I found a.k.a as change is coming in Cuba
Cuban legal experts say they expect the government to send the National Assembly between 60 and 80 proposed laws over the next two years. They told The Associated Press that these measures, when approved, would replace laws considered outdated.
The assembly is almost sure to approve all government proposals, as it has for years.
“I expect to see big changes in Cuba with the new constitution,” said Julio Antonio Fernandez, a law professor at the University of Havana. “A new state structure, a transformed political system, led by the Communist Party, of course, but different and confronting big challenges,” he added.
One of the first changes will be in Cuba’s political system. In the next five months, the government is required to pass a new electoral law. The measure would split the duties of head of state and government between the current president and a new position of prime minister.
Also, new governors will replace the Communist Party first secretaries as the highest official in Cuba’s 15 provinces.
The Communist Party remains the only political group permitted in the country. However, the wording in the new constitution could give voters a choice among different Communist Party candidates instead of just voting “yes” or “no” for a single candidate chosen by the government.
So let me translate.
Change is coming but The Communist Party will stay on top and going nowhere; and,
Electoral reform is coming but you will choose between two communists for office. Yes “Fidel A” vs “Fidel B”!
Change?   Not really!   Just more of the same that we’ve seen before.
