Blame it on Nancy

The Democrats are in panic mode, as we read in various news stories about concerns over the Sanders candidacy’s effect down ballot.   

When is someone on the other side going to pin the Sanders’ candidacy on Nancy Pelosi?  She is responsible for this.  It was her weakness as a leader that led the left in the House to take over the party.   

Blame it on Nancy.  She made this nightmare scenario possible, as we see in this editorial:     

After her stunning victory in 2018, Pelosi seemed to be keeping her party on the right path, avoiding capitulation to the far Left. She resisted an ill-founded impeachment effort as long as she felt she could. She fought against attempts by the far-left “Squad” to usurp her speakership, even disparaging their “Green Dream, or whatever they call it.” 

And then Speaker Pelosi lost control of the class, as they say in school.   She cracked on impeachment.  She refused to sit down with President Trump, govern, and put some trophies on the wall for those moderates who made her speaker.  She pleased the left by just attacking President Trump over this and that.

And now she is going to see her majority go down the tubes!

What if Pelosi had stood up to this leftist crowd a year ago and told Sanders that he is not a Democrat?  They’d be in better shape today, to say the least.

Chris Wallace is right about Jim Acosta

The Jim Acosta Show traveled to India this week.  

As usual, the man goes out of his way to be obnoxious and please the one million viewers per hour who watch CNN.  

Acosta’s style is getting on Chris Wallace’s nerves, as he said this week:   

“I was horrified by [Acosta],” Wallace said at a Columbia University event in New York City hosted by the Common Ground Committee on Tuesday night. 

“It’s not our job to get in fights with presidents. It’s not our job to one-up presidents. It’s our job to report on presidents.”

“But to the degree we have responded to his attacks on us with attacks or advocacy in kind, there’s a huge mistake, and I think adds to people questioning the credibility of the media,” the “Fox News Sunday” host said.

Acosta told Trump during a press conference in New Delhi that CNN’s “record on delivering the truth is a lot better” than his “sometimes” after the president broached the topic of a recent report on Russia’s election interference that CNN later walked back.

“I worry that the president’s attacks have given too many straight news reporters — not talking about the opinion page or prime time — an excuse or license to cross the line themselves and become players on the field, and I think that is a huge mistake,” Wallace said. 

“It’s not our role. Our role is to be observers, umpires, fact-checkers, investigators — it’s not to be advocates. It’s not to be opponents.”

Chris Wallace is correct.  I hope that Mr. Wallace understands that Acosta’s act is totally premeditated.

In other words, CNN knows that their shrinking audience wants a reporter who fights Trump.  

Should The White House remove his credentials?  No they should not.  President Trump does a great job of making a fool out of Acosta.

1947 and the Dodgers in Havana, Cuba

As we watch major league teams play the first round of exhibition games, we remember another spring in pre-Castro Havana.

Back in 1947, the Brooklyn Dodgers, now in Los Angeles, went to Havana for spring training. It created a lot of excitement in the island, to say the least, as Irv Goldfarb wrote in The Society for American Baseball Research:   

The Dodgers were not totally unfamiliar with Cuba, having previously used Havana’s La Tropical Stadium as their spring training site for the 1941 and ’42 seasons, before Rickey arrived from St. Louis. Wartime travel restrictions, however, ended that experiment. And as early as 1943, Rickey had shown interest in having heralded Cuban Leaguer Silvio Garcia become the first player to test major league baseball’s color barrier.

Of course, Cuba was already familiar with professional baseball, from the Cubans who played in the US and the black stars, like Satchel Paige, who had played in the island.

The Dodgers’ visit brings up another point or the island’s strong economy. The Dodgers had many options for spring training including their site in Florida. They spent that winter in Cuba because the economy could support a major league team even during the spring training period.

We remember Frank Malzone (1930-2015)

Frank Malzone was born on this day in the Bronx in 1930.   Eventually, he played for the Boston Red Sox.

Back in the 1950's, Frank was a very good third baseman and showed power:  .274 average, 133 HR & 728 RBI in 1,441 games.   

Frank was one of the inaugural class of inductees into the Red Sox Hall of Fame, in November 1995.

Over the last months, we’ve posted often about the insanity in the left, from arguing about the number of genders to Trump Derangement Syndrome.

A few days ago, I found this on YouTube.

Like a person escaping an authoritarian regime, Arielle Scarcella built a raft and headed out.  Arielle is not some traditional girl who opposes abortion and believes that marriage is between a man and a woman.  She is as “woke” as they come, or at least she used to be.

Arielle objects to much of what she sees, such as arguing about 97 genders, accusations of bigotry if you disagree, and “child drag queens.”

Maybe Arielle is just a publicity-seeker or perhaps a sign of things to come. 

My hope is that some people on her side watch her video and examine the insanity of their movement.

How low can you go?

Chubby Checker had dancing in mind when he sang “how low can you go” in that 1962 hit “Limbo rock“.    

Maybe someone won this week’s Democratic debate — or rather, screaming match.  My feeling is that no one really did, at least nobody on that stage.  Give President Trump another win.   

It got really low in Charleston. Watching these people go back and forth was painful.  

Listening to Elizabeth Warren talk about Michael Bloomberg allegedly telling a pregnant woman to “kill it” was the low point of the night for me.  After all, this is the same woman who voted “no“ earlier in the day for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in the U.S. Senate.  And she is talking about someone killing babies?

Watching moderators lose control of the night did not help either.

In the end, it was a waste of time as John F. Harris wrote:   

The evening was defined by peevish exchanges, raised voices, feeble attempts at humor, complaints about fairness in being allowed to speak, and extended passages of cross-talk in which moderators utterly lost control of the debate and it was impossible even to understand what was being said. The noise was hardly conducive to a sustained or intelligible argument about whether Sanders is the strongest nominee or the one most representative of the views and temper of the party.The evening offered limited opportunities — were these possibly enough? — for six Democrats not named Sanders to revive their candidacies with last-stand moments to emerge as the main alternative to the self-described democratic socialist for the balance of the nomination contest. 

Yes — a bad night all around.  

So what’s next in this clown show?  We will know more the morning after Super Tuesday but we can say this about the state of the Democrats:

1) This is a miserably unhappy group of people; and,

2) They are going to bring all of that misery and unhappiness to Milwaukee or their convention.

Bad night.  I would have been better off watching a Chubby Checker video.

Let's give CBS News a little credit.  They posted some great stores about Fast & Furious a few months ago.  They've been on top of that story, also known as "Obama gave 2,000 guns to Mexican cartels and nobody knows who approved the decision."

Today, they came out with a story about the Obama debt:

"The National Debt has now increased more during President Obama's three years and two months in office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency.The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office.The latest posting from the Bureau of Public Debt at the Treasury Department shows the National Debt now stands at $15.566 trillion. It was $10.626 trillion on President Bush's last day in office, which coincided with President Obama's first day.The National Debt also now exceeds 100% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product, the total value of goods and services."

The Obama administration will say that they inherited a deficit. 

It is  true that Pres Bush's last deficit included TARP, or the $700 billion item that was passed by Congress (Obama voted Yes) to address the banking crisis of the fall of 2008.

However, Pres BO's deficits have nothing to do with what he inherited.  They are the result of spending, spending and more spending.  We've spent trillions of dollars and all we have to show for it is Solyndra, a stimulus that did not stimulate as predicted and BO-Care, an open ended entitlement about to blow a hole in our finances.

We know that "jobs" will be a big issue this fall.  However, we need a very serious talk about spending.  We can't go on like this.  At some point, unsustainable actually happens and we are Greece!

We remember this from 2008.  Is Pres BO irresponsible and unpatriotic?  I guess so.

"Hispanos" will be taken for granted IF they keep voting Democrat

Last night, we watched a pathetic debate in South Carolina.   

Here in Texas, we see Democrat candidates pandering for Hispanic votes with promises they won't keep and programs we can't afford.

How is giving 70% of their vote for Democrats working out for Hispanics from coast to coast?  Not well!

Let's hope that "hispanos" are more skeptical and demand "results" rather than another round of "5 de Mayo" speeches from the Democrats.

"Hispanos" learned a nasty lesson under President Obama and his Democrat majority of 2009-10.   The Democrats didn't deliver and won't as long as Hispanos "blindly" give them the vote in every election.

It's time to "Hispanos" to flex their electoral muscle by reminding Democrats that they not little robots who blindly vote on election day.

Remember when they were called communists?

The Times They Are a-Changin’ or something like that.  

Over the last few days, a Bernie Sanders video has gone public.  This is the one where he said this about Castro’s Cuba:  

Speaking to CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, pointed to social welfare programs introduced under Castro’s regime that he described as redeeming, despite the communist dictator’s often repressive human-rights violations against Cubans.“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba but you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know? When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?” Sanders told Anderson Cooper.

Let’s not overlook some facts, such as that Cuba had a very high literacy rate before Castro.  In fact, let’s get specific:   

Cuba ranked fifth in the hemisphere in per capita income, third in life expectancy, second in per capita ownership of automobiles and telephones, first in the number of television sets per inhabitant. The literacy rate, 76%, was the fourth highest in Latin America. Cuba ranked 11th in the world in the number of doctors per capita. Many private clinics and hospitals provided services for the poor. Cuba’s income distribution compared favorably with that of other Latin American societies. A thriving middle class held the promise of prosperity and social mobility.

So Bernie does not know Cuba and neither does Anderson Cooper.

Also, did you ever hear Sanders say anything about Castro’s authoritarian rule before?  I have not!

Nevertheless, this is really about the Democrats and how they got to this place.

We are four months away from nominating a man that most Democrats used to call a communist not too many years ago.  

That’s the story.  How did the party end up like this?  Maybe they will figure it out after Sanders drives over the cliff in about eight months.

Chris Matthews loses his hardball

To Trump Derangement Syndrome, the three-year malady that has relegated the left to a world of its own collective insanity, we can add SDS – Sanders Derangement Syndrome, the same form of dementia applied to one of their own, the inimitable Bernie Sanders.   

The first victim of SDS is Chris Matthews, who looks like a man who has lost his famous hardball.

With respect to the Nevada results, this is what he said:   

I was reading last night about the fall of France in the summer of 1940, and the general, Renault, calls up Churchill and says, ‘It’s over.’ And Churchill says ‘How can it be? You’ve got the greatest army in Europe. How can it be over?’ He said, ‘It’s over.’ 

Wait, it got better.  Check this one out:    

“I’m wondering whether the Democratic moderates want Bernie Sanders to be president,” he said. “That’s maybe too exciting a question to raise. They don’t like Trump at all. Do they want Bernie Sanders to take over the Democratic Party in perpetuity? I mean, he takes it over, he sets the direction of the future of the party — maybe they’d rather wait four years and put in a Democrat that they like.”

Comparisons to World War II are always stupid and insulting to the thousands who died to fight Hitler and Japan.  After all, we just finished celebrating the 75th anniversary of many of those battles.

Hoping that a Trump victory will lead to rebuilding the Democrats will mean that President Trump will put more judges in the federal judiciary and potentially the Supreme Court.  How is that good for Democrats?

Matthews needs to look at himself in the mirror and see the problem.  The left has spent three years demonizing President Trump and now must deal with all of the hatred and insanity that they’ve unleashed. How long will they do the same with Sanders?

Bloomberg banking on everyone running out of money

We can say two things about the Democrats running for president.

First, they are going to hit Bloomberg, and maybe each other, harder than ever.  Some may even call it “desperation.”

Second, Senator Sanders and Mr. Bloomberg may be the only two with any cash in the bank to move on after Super Tuesday.

This is from Politico:

While Sanders started February with nearly $17 million in the bank, according to campaign finance disclosures filed Thursday night, his next closest rival (nonbillionaire class) was Biden, at $7.1 million. Warren was closest to the red, with just $2.3 million left in her account, while Buttigieg ($6.6 million) and Klobuchar ($2.9 million) were in between.

The Wall Street Journal ran a similar story.  They point out that Buttigieg and Biden are sort of MIA on the TV screens — i.e., no money for TV ads in so many big markets like California and Texas.

On the morning after Super Tuesday, we will see a happy Sanders, a Bloomberg with lots of cash, and quite a few others working on their “we are stopping campaign operations” speeches.

Then Bloomberg will tear up Sanders by showing all those “commie” videos and explaining that his numbers don’t add up.  Sanders will fight back, saying Bloomberg wants to buy the election and so on.

The loser will be the Democrats, who will never get reconcile their huge differences.

Bloomberg’s other campaign in Texas

On Super Tuesday,  Michael Bloomberg will probably come in third in the Texas primary.  He will lose to Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden.

Bloomberg is doing something else in Texas or spending money on gun control:    

Everytown for Gun Safety, a Michael Bloomberg-backed group that pushes for expanded background checks, red flag laws and other measures, is plotting what its political director calls an “unprecedented financial and grassroots effort” to flip the Texas House, defend vulnerable freshmen Democrats in Congress and help Democrats take congressional seats in the suburbs. A memo detailing the plan, the group’s biggest state investment to date, was shared exclusively with Hearst Newspapers.“We believe that Texas, as it becomes younger and increasingly diverse, can be the next emerging battleground state with gun safety as the tipping point,” Chris Carr, the group’s political director wrote in the memo. “We believe there are opportunities to elect gun sense candidates up and down the ballot, from the statehouse to the U.S. Congress — and potentially even statewide.”

Will this work in Texas?  I don’t think so.  

How well did it work in Virginia?

The Bloomberg group is banking on the idea that Texas is changing, i.e. more Hispanic and people from liberal states looking for lower taxes.

Yes, Texas is not the super red state of yesterday but I don’t see any evidence that Democrats in Texas want to give up their guns.  

My guess is that Bloomberg will blow a lot of money and not get the results he seeks.  Isn’t that similar to what’s happening with his presidential campaign?

Bad night for the Ds

The good news is that President Trump won another Democrat debate.  The bad news is that there are probably a few more of these debates coming up before they meet in Milwaukee to nominate Senator Sanders.

Michael Bloomberg was awful, in large part because it was his first competitive debate.  Incredibly, he had few if any lines to counter what he had to know was coming.  Who prepared this guy?  Didn’t he have some 3×5 cards with lines to fight back?  For sure, this is not the Mike we saw in the TV ads.  He got it done in the ads but not on stage last night.

Liz Warren was effective in attacking Mr. Bloomberg.  She was extremely ineffective in adding any votes to her side.   In plain English, she is not a likeable person.  

Bernie Sanders won the night because he went in as the front runner and looks more and more like the nominee.   If you love Sanders, then you loved the debate.

Joe Biden was missing in action.  How much longer can he hang around?  It was embarassing.  However, he may be the only option that the Democrats have to stop Sanders at the convention.

Mayor Pete was wonderfully vague as usual.  Would this guy be on the stage if he was married to a woman and had a couple of cute Indiana kids?  The answer is no.  Pete is the “gay guy” in a party obsessed with identity politics.

Amy Klobuchar looks very nice but she is as liberal as Sanders.  Her record will be exposed if she becomes the nominee.  In other words, she is not the moderate that everyone claims that she is.

So what happens next?  

Super Tuesday will move Sanders forward and the rest will win a delegate here and there.  

Biden, Warren, Klobuchar, and Mayor Pete will probably drop out for lack of money.  The clock is ticking!

Sanders and Boomberg will go on “one on one” for a while, sort of like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump were calling each other names back in 2016. Social media pages will resemble the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s with both candidates destroying each other and dividing the party.

And then confusion, chaos and panic will take over when Democrats realize that it will be Sanders accepting the nomination in Milwaukee.

Michael Bloomberg and the guy in a dress

Let me be clear:  I am not voting for Michael Bloomberg in November.  Nevertheless, fair is fair and Bloomberg is getting a raw deal on his transgender comments.

Let’s read what he said:   

“If your conversation during a presidential election is about some guy wearing a dress and whether he, she, or it can go to the locker room with their daughter, that’s not a winning formula for most people…” 

What exactly is wrong with that?  

Some may call it insensitive.  I call it political realism.

According to a poll, a majority of Americans oppose having transgenders playing in the girls’ teams.  My guess is that most Americans, specially parents of young women playing sports, don’t like to read this:    

In April, a transgender “woman” broke world records in women’s squat, women’s bench press, and women’s deadlift. (Note: Those records were ultimately revoked on a technicality because the weightlifter had not transitioned yet).  In February, two Connecticut boys playing on girls’ track teams broke state records, while actual girls found themselves unable to qualify for regional competitions, limiting their opportunities to be scouted by college coaches.

Most people read about transgenders breaking female records and wonder whether this is reality or a lost episode of “The Twilight Zone.”

So Bloomberg was not talking about the rights of a transgender.  He was talking about a political party out of touch with the families living between New York and San Francisco.

Can Bloomberg survive the truth he stated?  Maybe.  

At the same time, nobody would be talking about “the guy in a dress” if he had run as an independent who can get things done.
