There is something rather silly about the attacks on Romney's Bain Capital!

Politics 101: All is fair in love and war and politics, too.

Politics 101-b:  All is fair when challengers are running out of time and money, too.

It's hard to believe that our side is playing the "class game" and attacking Bain Capital or the firm that Mitt Romney was associated with for years.

Yes, it's true that Romney got rich at Bain Capital.  Good for him!  I'm sure that he paid lots of taxes during that time. 

Yes, it's also true that Bain Capital shut down companies and often put people on the street. 

Yes, all of that is true but so what?

Bain Capital invested in "distressed" companies, or companies that were very likely to go under anyway.   

In other words, these companies were struggling to survive and had to be shut down or dramatically changed.

Again, this is why we call them "distressed companies".  

It's incredible to hear these kinds of attacks from the GOP. 

It's also worth nothing that Bain Capital has a list of success stories, such as companies that created jobs and many jobs.   James Pethokoukis has a great post about the real Bain Capital story and the stories to back it up:

"Romney’s career as a free-market capitalist? No apologies necessary."

The Wall Street Journal nailed it with an editorial:

"Mr. Romney's GOP opponents (with the admirable exception of Rick Santorum) are embarrassing themselves by taking the Obama line, but Mr. Romney should view this as an opportunity to stake his campaign on something larger and far more important than his own business expertise."

By the way, congratulations to Rick Santorum for not jumping on the Bain Capital attacks.   Thanks to Ron Paul for criticizing the attacks!  Rush Limbaugh blasted Gingrich, too.

No Cowboys SO we are 316% behind Tebow in the NFL postseason!

We know that God does not favor NFL teams or any other sports team.   Nevertheless, God must be enjoying the Tim Tebow Show and all of those last minute performances & the prayers that follow them.

Frankly, God is not the only one watching:

"The television ratings for Broncos-Steelers could provide a clue: The game pulled in a whopping 25.9 rating for CBS, becoming the highest-rated AFC wild-card game since 1988. (That was 24 years ago, pre-Internet and before a majority of Americans had cable or satellite.) 

Variety estimates 45 million people watched Tebow's touchdown pass in overtime."

The Tebow story is wonderful for several reasons:

1) Tebow is enjoying what he is doing.   His positive attitude is contagious.

2) Tebow is a great role model at a time when athletes hit the front pages for doing stupid things.

3) Teblow understands leadership.  Tebow understands that he looks good when the team looks good!  It's all about the team not Tebow!

To be fair, Tebow will face a huge test when Denver travels to New England to meet the Patriots.

However, I will cheer for Tim and the Broncos!

Who knows?  Maybe Denver will beat NE 31-6!

We "downsize" our military but will the bad guys do the same?

Did I miss something or is the Obama White House hoping for the bad guys to start behaving differently?

David Ignatius (via Bill Katz) reports on the major changes that this "downsizing" represent for our armed forces.  

It looks like Pres BO wants to "turn the page on 9-11" and on track for a different world.  Is that realistic given the hostility of Iran or the radicals winning elections in Egypt and the uncertainties in Libya?

The Washington Post is a bit concerned, too.  They remind us that defense as a percentage of GDP is going down to 3% of GDP contrast to 9.5% under Eisenhower.   

I understand that we have a huge debt and federal budget deficit.  However, defense cuts do make you more vulnerable in a dangerous world.

The Europeans have enjoyed this "welfare state plus a lean military" for decades.  They've benefited from the fact that the US protected the shipping sea lanes, such as The Strait of Hormuz, and air space from incoming missiles.

Who is going to protect us?  Nobody and that's why we need to be very careful about cutting the defense budget.
