It’s amazing what abortion has done to the Democrats

We’ve come a long since the Roe v. Wade opinion of 1973, or since David Brooks wrote this about the Samuel Alito hearings of 2005:    
Justice Harry Blackmun did more inadvertent damage to our democracy than any other 20th-century American. When he and his Supreme Court colleagues issued the Roe v. Wade decision, they set off a cycle of political viciousness and counter-viciousness that has poisoned public life ever since, and now threatens to destroy the Senate as we know it.
Sadly. it’s only gotten worse.  Just listen to Senator Charles Schumer:   
“I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price!”“You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
Threats?  Why only against the Trump appointments?
Schumer deserves all the the outrage and calls for resignation.
Frankly, I am not calling for his resignation.  Leave that to the people of New York.
Instead, I am calling on serious Democrats to look at themselves in the mirror and see what the unconditional defense of an “opinion” has done to their party.  
Also, what about the many Democrats who are pro-life or believe a late-term abortion is just plain wrong?
I am waiting to hear what de-facto nominee Joe Biden will say about this incident.

Nancy Reagan, a wonderful First Lady (1921-2016)

We learned on this day in 2016 that Nancy Reagan died at age 94.  She looked very frail the last time that I saw her in the news.

My first memory of Mrs Reagan was the 1976 GOP convention in Kansas City.    I'm sure that everyone remembers the floor rallies.    On one side was Mrs Reagan.   On the other side was Mrs Ford.

As First Lady, she showed great courage when President Reagan was shot.   She also did a great job with the "just say no" program.

Nancy is with President Reagan again.    And I'm sure that they are both rather happy!

Ed McMahon was a very funny man!


Ed McMahon, Longtime 'Tonight Show' Sideman, Dies at 86 - The New ...
We remember that Ed McMahon was born in Detroit on this day in 1923.  He died June 23, 2009.

My generation grew up watching The Tonight Show. It was Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon, a great team!

Bill Katz has a great post about Ed McMahon:
"He was a warm, gregarious and totally accessible guy, a former Marine pilot, who seemed genuinely grateful for his luck."
Rent a Tonight Show DVD this weekend! They were great shows.  

We remember Nancy Reagan (1921-2016)

For so many of us, Nancy Reagan was bigger than life.

She was always next to Governor and then President Reagan, the most influential politician of the last 50 years.    She was there at the GOP convention, at the campaign rallies and always present supporting Cuban Americans in the US.

Like her husband, she understood the evil of communism.   We will miss her.
The ultimate, painful role she played was being the caretaker when the president was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. She made her family’s first-hand experience with the disease part of a public awareness campaign. Mrs. Reagan was the catalyst for much of research that followed to conquer this dreadful disease.Her final role was as the torch carrier her extraordinary husband, our fortieth president.The flame will continue to glow and our nation can forever be grateful for this exceptional president and the lovely lady who loved him, guided him, supported him and loved her country as he did.Rest in peace, Mrs. Reagan. Your nation loves you and will miss you!
Yes rest in peace Mrs Reagan. We will always remember you for being the faithful woman who stood with President Reagan all the way.
