May 12, 1932: The police found the body of the Lindbergh baby
On May 12, 1932, the police found the body of the missing Lindbergh baby. He was kidnapped on March 1st and many believe that the baby died that same night.
It became "the crime of the century". A man was eventually convicted for the crime but there are still doubts about who did it.

Happy # 89 Felipe Alou
We remember Felipe Alou who was born in The Dominican Republican on this day in 1935.
As a player, Alou was one of the most consistent hitters in the National League: .286, 206 HR, 852 RBI & 2,101 hits.
He broke with the Giants in 1958, was traded to Milwaukee (1964-65) and then had some great years in Atlanta (1966-69). Later, he played with the A's, the Yankees, Expos & Brewers.
Along the way, Alou led the NL twice in hits, i.e. 1966 & 1968.
His best season was probably 1966: .327 average, 31 HR, 74 RBI, 122 runs & 218 hits. He finished # 5 in the NL MVP vote.
As a manager, Alou was 691-717 with the Expos and later the Giants. His Expos had the best record in baseball (.649) the year of the 1994 strike. Wonder how deep those Expos would have gone that year?
Alou's two brothers, Matty & Jesus, also played in the majors.

1970: Ernie Banks hit # 500
We remember the late Ernie Banks' 500th home run.
Unfortunately, Banks never played in a post season game. The Cubs were in first place in August 1969 but fell apart and lost to the Mets down the stretch.
Banks is still one of the most popular players ever to wear a major league uniform: Hall of Fame 1977, 1958 & 1959 NL MVP, 512 HR, 1,636 RBI, 2,583 hits and twice led the NL in HR's.

We remember Yogi Berra (1925-2015)
We remember Lawrence Berra who was born in St. Louis on this day in 1925. He died in 2015.
Like a lot of kids of my generation, we got to know the post-baseball Yogi Berra.
We remember him on Johnny Carson or other baseball events. We laughed and admired all of those quotes.
Yogi Berra was a great player, a Hall of Famer and 3-time MVP. He made the AL All Star Team 15 times and played on 10 World Series champions.
Did he really say all of those things? I don't know but they were great.

Happy Mothers Day: Remembering Mrs Cleaver!
Like most kids, I loved "Leave it to Beaver".
Like most baby boomers, I love the reruns, specially when Eddie Haskell makes an appearance.
On Mothers Day, we remember Mrs. Cleaver, Beaver's mom, and one of my favorite TV characters.
Barbara Billingsley died in 2010. She was 94.

Happy Mothers Day (and some of my favorite TV mothers)
Happy Mothers' Day to all of the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and even those mothers to be. (Did I miss anyone?)
Over the years, we've loved TV mothers — i.e. all of those "mom" characters we grew up watching.
Here is my list of favorites:
1) Mrs. Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver. Barbara Billingsley died in late 2010. She will forever be Beaver's mom and one of the most endearing characters in TV history. Frankly, didn't Mrs. Cleaver remind you of your mom?
2) Mrs. Ingalls of Little House in the Prairie. She was just great. This is a show about the "frontier mother," the courageous woman of the frontier.
3) On a more hilarious note, let me add Mrs. Adams of The Adams Family. Wasn't Mrs. Morticia Adams just hilarious? Doesn't every mother have a bit of Mrs. Adams in her personality?
Again, we salute all of the mothers today. We hope they all have a lovely day.

A nice word for the mothers!
"This Mother’s Day, two-out-of-three adults (66%) believe that being a mother is the most important role for a woman to fill.Only 17% disagree and 16% are not sure.Those figures are similar to our survey conducted this time last year."
This is nice. I'm not sure about the 17% who disagree. What about the 16% who are not sure? I hope that their mother did not hear how they voted!
