He is sleazy, he's my brother

He is sleazy, he's my brother: Knock knock, it's Governor Walz’s brother. He is got something to say about Brother Tim, or Lady K's running mate. Let's check this one from Jon Levine: Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz is not the…

We say happy birthday to Terry Bradshaw, who was born on this day in 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He won 4 Super Bowls, including 2 against Dallas.   Bradshaw was 14-5 in the post season.   After the NFL, he became one of the best pre-game TV analysts ever.

We remember Milo Hamilton (1927-2015)

The great Milo Hamilton died in 2015.   Hamilton was born in Iowa on this day in 1927, served in the US Navy and then started doing radio play by play for local teams.

Hamilton was a great baseball voice and I remember catching many of the Astros’ broadcasts on I-45.

He was in the middle of the greatest moments in Astros' history:   Houston's first World Series appearance in 2005,  Nolan Ryan's 5th no-hitter, Craig Biggio's 3,000th hit and Mike Scott's no hitter that clinched the 1986 AL West title.  (I remember catching the last inning of that game on the radio)

1944: Young George H W Bush and World War II service

We remember today a very young George Bush in 1944.
The story is that the future President’s plane was shot down leaving him floating in the shark infected waters for hours. He was eventually found by a US submarine in the area.
The young Navy pilot flew 58 combat missions, won 3 Air Medals as well as a Presidential Unit Citation.
Great story!

We remember Billy Preston (1946-2006)

William Everett “Billy” Preston was born in Houston, Texas, on this day in 1946 and died in 2006.

He met The Beatles in Germany before the band was famous.   Preston reconnected with them and played keyboards on “Get back” and the B-side of “Don’t let me down”.    Later, he had a string of solo hits and also played with The Rolling Stones.

Preston was a fabulous organist.    One of my favorite songs was “Outaspace”.

September 2, 1945 and the formal end of World War II

On September 2, 1945, Japan formally surrendered.  And there was a lot of kissing and celebrating all over!

There were many great songs recorded in the 1940's, specially about the soldier at war and the girl back home.

In 1945, Kitty Kalen and Harry James recorded one of the great tunes of that era.    It was titled "It's been a long long time" and you can now get it on a digital version:
"Never felt that you would be standing so close near to met there's so much I feel that I should say but words can wait until some other day
Kiss me once, then kiss me twice, then kiss me once again,It's been a long, long time!
Haven't felt like this my dear, since I can't remember when,It's been a long, long time!
You'll never know how may dreams I dreamed about you,or just how empty they all seemed without you
So, kiss me once, then kiss me twice, then kiss me once again,It's been a long, long time!"
