2006: McCain was leading Clinton
We will never know for two reasons: First, Senator McCain ran against Senator Obama; and, Two, the banking crisis in October 2008 made it very difficult for Senator McCain. Nevertheless, it looked like McCain would beat Clinton 12 years ago.
