A few years ago, I heard this attributed to a fellow named Arnold H Glasgow:
"A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit."
Wonder if Pres BO should read that?
We are watching Pres BO engage in massive narcissism over the killing of Osama Bin Laden.
First, no one denies Pres BO made the decision to "get Osama". It happened on his watch and that's worth a lot.
Second, Pres BO has turned a rare bipartisan moment into an ugly political ad and another opportunity to promote himself.
Pres BO's "way over the top" mishandling of this killing raises questions about his understanding of leadership and state of the mind. Also, it really makes you wonder if there is anyone in this administration who tells Pres BO what he needs to hear, from Michelle taking a $465,000 vacation to Spain to the Osama killing anniversary.
He is getting "blowback" from ex-Navy Seals, as well as other officials who were doing all of the heavy background work to make the killing possible.
It would have been so much better if Pres BO had said this:
"Today we mark the first anniversary of OBL's death.
Let me congratulate the courageous Navy Seals who risked their lives to find & kill him.
Let me express my gratitude, and that of the entire nation, to all of those intelligence analysts who spent years putting the dots together that led us to OBL.
Let me say thanks to all of those CIA operatives who interviewed terrorists over the years.
Our entire nation thanks them for leading us to OBL.
Let me thank Pres Bush for starting the process that led us to this day.
This is a moment for all of us. Congratulations to the American people"
Sadly, Pres BO has turned a national moment into another opportunity to talk about himself and make those stupid remarks against Gov Romney. I agree with Tim Stanley from the UK: Obama's tacky 'I Shot Bin Laden' ad has turned a military triumph into a political disaster
Great leaders only talk about themselves when they are accepting blame. They give the credit to others, such as Eisenhower after WW2 or Lincoln after Lee surrendered. (There is a great article in today's WSJ about this by Michael Mukasey. I hope that they read it in the Obama White House)
We have a president who does not understand leadership. By the way, did I tell you that he is under 50% in every poll? Wonder why?
