The migrants are coming. They apparently walked into Mexico without a visa and are now walking to "el norte" as they call the U.S.-Mexico border. Let's get the story:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a strong warning to a major migrant caravan that crossed into Mexico and was moving north with hopes of reaching the U.S.-Mexico border.
"USBP is closely engaged with its international partners to monitor their movement and any additional developments," DHS told Fox News in a statement. "[United States Border Patrol] USBP reminds migrants that under the leadership of President Trump and Homeland Secretary Mullin, the border has remained closed and secured for the last 16 months."
The caravan, numbering in the hundreds as of Monday, is predominantly made up of Hondurans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans, Ecuadoreans and Haitians.
As a Mexican friend told me last night, let's hope that the Mexican government understands that these "caravanistas" are not entering the U.S. So, he added, I hope that the people in North Mexico understand that they have new neighbors.
The question is simple: Who is behind this? Am I the only person who believes that someone planned and financed a multinational caravan like this? Are we supposed to believe that people from these countries casually decided to meet up wherever and walk north? Who is paying for “los sandwiches y refrescos” (the sandwiches and refreshments) as my late Cuban parents used to say?
Mexico made a big mistake by letting them in. The "caravanistas" probably think that they will enter the U.S. Mexico should have told them to go home and brought this to a peaceful resolution.
