Maybe Sherlock Holmes can unmask the Supreme Court leaker

(My new American Thinker post)

Two weeks, and the Supreme Court leaker is still going to work every day.  I assume he is, unless there was a resignation that no one heard about.

Who did it?  We understand that Chief Justice Roberts is very committed to finding the leaker.  Yet this leaker is still out there, and who knows what other "leak" is coming?  Once a leaker, always a leaker.  Just check out the repeat leakers who kept the media busy during the Russia and Trump story.

So Justice Roberts needs a Plan B.  I'm not knocking the FBI, but this leak calls for the genius.

We remember that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born on this day in 1859:

After medical school, Doyle moved to London, where his slow medical practice left him ample free time to write.

His first Sherlock Holmes story, A Study in Scarlet, was published in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887.

Starting in 1891, a series of Holmes stories appeared in The Strand magazine. Holmes enabled Doyle to leave his medical practice in 1891 and devote himself to writing, but the author soon grew weary of his creation.

In The Final Problem, he killed off both Holmes and his nemesis, Dr. Moriarty, only to resuscitate Holmes later due to popular demand.

So maybe we can revive Holmes once again and turn the matter of the leak to him.  The new novel should be titled The Angry Intern Seeking Fame and Fortune or the story of the liberal who just couldn't accept the idea that voters rather than justices should make these calls.  The motive was to excite the hapless Democrats 2022, write a book or two, and get a job as a legal analyst at CNN plus.

At the beginning of his work, Mr. Holmes put out his pipe ("no smoking" these days) and interviewed the interns one by one.  In another front, Dr. Watson, the other half of the duo, watched carefully as the interns answered the questions.

One question started one particular intern.

Holmes asked: "Where does it say in the U.S. Constitution that abortion is a right?"

Intern said: "It's not there, but that's what modern justices do."

Holmes again: "So the voters don't count."

Intern replied: "In this case, they do not.  The issue is too complicated for those people."

Later in their makeshift version of 221B Baker Street, Holmes finally lit his pipe and said, "I got the leaker."  Dr. Watson said, "Yes, you did."

Eventually, Mr. Holmes called a press conference and identified the leaker, or the angry leaker on a mission.  He looked at the startled media; recalled one of his famous cases, "A Case of Identity"; and said this:

It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.

Elementary, Dr. Watson!  Yes, the little things such as thinking this person was smarter than the voters.  Holmes picked up on that immediately, and Dr. Watson said thumbs up.

Holmes got it.  Will the FBI do the same?

Maybe the Secretary should talk to the people in the Interior

 (My new American Thinker post)

First, she shows no emotion about rising gasoline prices.  One would think that she would have prepared for such an obvious question.  In other words, I would have expected her to say 1,000 times that she feels the pain at the pump.  No, she responded with aloof answers about a "balanced approach" whatever that means.  I would think that most Americans would love an approach that tilts a bit in their direction, i.e. a drop in gas prices.

Second, she was confused when asked about the environmental impact of drilling there rather than here:

“Is it more environmentally friendly to develop and produce oil and gas” in the U.S. or in foreign countries, like Venezuela?

Biden Interior Secretary: “I’m not an economist”

Thank God that she was not asked to define "woman."

Miss Haaland is running the Department of Interior but does not have a clue of what people are experiencing in the interior or anywhere else.  How can any fair-minded person watch this and conclude that the Biden administration is connected to reality?

Too late to talk gun control in Buffalo

(My new American Thinker post)

As expected, the Democrats came out talking about more gun control.  It's all they do after one of these terrible incidents, like the horrible shooting in Buffalo.

Yet, two things happened in New York. The first one is that a mentally unstable young man was allowed to legally buy a gun. The second one is that New York's gun laws did not work.

Let's look at this young man, Payton S. Gendron. He was walking around with a message on his head: Stop me before I kill somebody! He was incredibly outside of the police radar, as we see in this report:

In the Discord posts -- eventually shared more widely on the hate-filled 4chan online forum -- the alleged gunman wrote he visited the supermarket three times March 8 to survey its layout.

He also wrote he used Google's graph feature for a location's "popular times" to determine the busiest times at the store.

Among the Discord posts, which run from mid-November to May, Gendron wrote he chose the ZIP code in Buffalo because it was the one with the greatest percentage of Black people that's relatively near his home in Conklin, New York. The cities are about 230 miles apart.

The police should have known about Discord and that these messages were being posted. Where were the kids' parents? Didn't they know that their son was a time bomb? What about his friends?  He was posting and I assume that some people were following him. Why didn't someone call the police? Everyone in his "followers" list is responsible for failing to report what Payton was up to.

The second thing that happened is that New York's gun laws did not really work. The Democrats are desperately changing the subject  to white supremacy. However, the families of the dead deserve an explanation rather than another round of executive orders.  It's obvious that "red flags" did not work and that's what the focus should be.

Stop talking about white supremacy and more gun control and explain to people why the authorities did such a lousy job of protecting them.

Public school enrollment is plummeting

 (My new American Thinker post)

According to a New York Times article, parents are not sending their kids to public schools the way they used to.  This is a sample of the school districts feeling the pinch:

In New York City, the nation's largest school district has lost some 50,000 students over the past two years. In Michigan, enrollment remains more than 50,000 below prepandemic levels from big cities to the rural Upper Peninsula.

In the suburbs of Orange County, Calif., where families have moved for generations to be part of the public school system, enrollment slid for the second consecutive year; statewide, more than a quarter-million public school students have dropped from California's rolls since 2019.

And since school funding is tied to enrollment, cities that have lost many students — including Denver, Albuquerque and Oakland — are now considering combining classrooms, laying off teachers or shutting down entire schools.

All together, America's public schools have lost at least 1.2 million students since 2020, according to a recently published national survey. State enrollment figures show no sign of a rebound to the previous national levels any time soon.

Wow.  I knew that it was a big number but had no idea that it exceeded 1 million.

Why is this happening?

First, let's start with the pandemic and the way that kids were kept at home.  I recall that our area Catholic schools, and other private schools, were operating, whereas the public schools were not.  How did these schools do it?  They were careful and kept parents in the loop.

Second, let's look at what these kids were taught about the country's history.

Last, but not least, the big overriding reason is that the public school system acted like the monopoly that it is.  It put its interests first and did not listen to the parents or customers.  Who pays the taxes?  The parents!

So Mom and Dad started looking for alternatives and taking control of their kids' education.

What happens now?  There is some big downsizing coming up.  Many school districts will have to lay off teachers and close facilities.  The collapse is starting, and the teachers' union has only itself to blame.
