John Denver came up as a folk singer and composer.
His big chance came in 1969 when Peter Paul & Mary recorded "Leaving on a jet plane". Denver jumped on the opportunity and released a string hits of the 1970's, such as “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine On My Shoulders,” “Annie’s Song,” “Back Home Again,” “Thank God I’m A Country Boy,” and “Calypso”.
His unique sound created a following on Top 40, country and folk radio stations.
