How do you overlook D-Day?

(My new American Thinker post)

The Biden White House finally issued a D-Day message but a bit late. This is from Greg Price:

He has like 70 people who handle his social media and none of them thought to post something about one of the most important days in the history of our country until 8:45 pm.....

How did that happen? Did someone forget to mark the calendar, sort of like we write down family birthdays? I understand that it happened 78 years ago but there are still veterans around or family members who remember this day.

Who dropped the ball?

Didn't President Biden know that it was D-Day? He was part of the generation who grew up seeing World War II veterans in their neighborhood or maybe a Biden served. Didn't President Biden ask his chief of staff about the D-Day message that he'd make that day?

What went wrong with the president's staff? Didn't they know that it was D-Day? They forgot the 2021 commemoration, too.

My guess is that two things are going on:

First, President Biden is not engaged in the day-to-day matters. He comes to the office, gets the instructions and just goes out and reads whatever they write.

Second, his staff does not care about D-Day. They probably think that the landing force was not diverse enough or another example of toxic masculinity.

Back in 2011, Frank Burke called it an abdicative manager:

The abdicative manager evidences a tendency to flee from responsibility and is frequently encountered in situations where he or she never wanted the job in the first place....

Does that sound like the man who travels a lot to Delaware?

No matter what, the buck stops with President Biden and waiting until the end of the day to remember D-Day is an insult to the people who died or served that day.  The commander in chief can not do this.

Why isn't Mexico stopping the caravan?

 (My new American Thinker post)

We just learned that a new migrant caravan is coming north.

This is the story from The Guardian:

This is not the first migrant caravan to leave Tapachula, but it may be the largest ever recorded in Mexico: its numbers are expected to swell in the coming days, and may reach 15,000 people....."

According to the article, it is a multinational caravan:

The largest number of migrants in the caravan come from Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua – three countries whose authoritarian rulers Joe Biden has conspicuously refused to invite to the summit. But there are also Haitians, Salvadorans, Hondurans, Guatemalans and even citizens of India, Bangladesh, and several African countries.

Up here, the impotent Biden administration is going to play word games (asylum seekers), dump this on the overwhelmed Border Patrol, and put the illegal border crossers on a midnight plane to somewhere.

To say the least, it was a lot different when our family came to the U.S. seeking political freedom.

Cuba and the U.S. did not have diplomatic relations back then, so we had to go to Mexico, travel to Jamaica, and wait two months for "el permiso," or, the permit, as my parents called it. Again, it was more orderly and correctly so.

So what do we do now?

First of all, we need to confront the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua and tell them to stop it. Cuba is desperate for cash and we could cancel all U.S.-Havana flights immediately. I'm convinced that the Castro regime is desperately trying to get rid of people.

Second, what about Mexico? The article points out that Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez-Obrador is trying to play the role of the humanitarian. Why doesn't he offer residence to the "caravan-istas"? Invite them to stay in Mexico.

Once again, we see what happens when a weak president surrounded by immigration activists opens the border without consequences.

I came here with my parents many years ago. I understand why people want to leave Cuba or Venezuela. But we have embassies and consulates in those countries and we should process these requests over there. Have them apply and give them an orderly entry when the request is approved.

Caravans will only create more caravans!

We'll lend them more money to pay the higher tuitions

(My new American Thinker post)

It's a heck of a business model.   First, you give them loans to pay the tuition, then they graduate with meaningless degrees and then a poll-desperate Democrat president forgives the loans.

Where can I get into a business like that? My friend, the used car dealer, would love to sell cars, make loans, and then have a president rip up the promissory notes when they can't pay.

According to news reports, 27 of the largest universities will be increasing tuitions. At the same time, the Biden administration is talking "loan forgiveness."  Every loan forgiven is just another excuse for a university to increase its tuition rates.

It turns out that cancelling loans is not so popular in the country.  This is from Josh Christenson:

President Joe Biden has said he's "taking a hard look" at canceling hundreds of billions of dollars in student loan debt -- a decision his advisers believe would be "a complete disaster" for the Democratic Party in the midterms.

"There are a lot of people very close to the president who privately understand that this is a complete disaster for them," the Washington Post‘s James Hohmann said on the Bulwark Podcast. The president's aides have attributed the political misjudgment to influence from leftwing Democrats including Sen. Raphael Warnock (Ga.) and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. Both are seeking high turnout from the party's base in the Peach State, where they say an electoral block of former graduates from HBCUs could tip the scales.

"They just don’t get it because they haven’t spent time in the WOW counties or in Apple Valley, Minnesota," Hohmann said, referring to toss-up districts on the outskirts of Milwaukee, Wis., and Minneapolis. "The president is being pulled really hard by these woke leftists who… believe it’s all about the base."

Biden canceled $5.8 billion in student loan debt on Wednesday for former students of Corinthian Colleges, a bankrupted for-profit chain of postsecondary-degree schools. Last week, the White House also floated loan forgiveness of $10,000 per s0tudent borrower. The debt forgiveness would add $245 billion to federal government debt, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

The top 40 percent of wage earners hold the majority of student debt. Of student-debt holders between the ages of 25 and 40, the top 40 percent bears half of the total debt, meaning the richest young adults carry the most.

The liberal push for student debt cancellation comes as the United States faces 40-year high inflation and record-breaking gas prices, which have doubled since Biden took office in January 2021.

Cancelling student debt is just the latest bad idea from people who specialize in bad ideas, like opening the border, and declaring war on fossil fuels.  We know how those bad ideas have turned out.  Have you filled your tank lately?   Have you seen how the GOP is gaining in South Texas?

I can't speak for every college graduate but we have a few in our family:  my three sons, my nephew, my five nieces, and others.  They  went to college, had a side or summer job and understood that loans have to be repaid.  Maybe this is why they all sought degrees with job potential rather than just diplomas with little value.

Go ahead and make more people between the coasts angry.  They will tell you what they think of your bad ideas in a few months.

More tales from the moderate

(My new American Thinker post)

They called him the moderate, the man who would calm down the nation after the Trump storm. In fact, he's turned out to be a radical of radicals, or at least, the willing radical tool of the shadowy figures who write his speeches and tell him what to say.

This is the latest tale of the moderate from this report by Just The News:

The Biden administration's controversial new mandate tying school lunch funds to the implementation of its transgender policies will primarily hurt low-income and minority students, according to experts and community activists.

"Holding the lunch money of low-income and underprivileged kids hostage in order to advance a woke gender orthodoxy shows precisely the lengths to which the president will go to ensure his pet policies on 'gender identity' are rammed through American lunchrooms, classrooms, bathrooms, dorm rooms, and sports teams," said Sarah Parshall Perry, senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

Perry was referring to the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), an agency within the Department of Agriculture (USDA), announcing last month that it will extend its interpretation of prohibitions on sex-based discrimination contained in Title IX to include discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 forbids sex-based discrimination in any educational institution that receives federal money.

Because the USDA provides federally subsidized school lunches nationwide, schools will now need to comply with the administration's LGBTQ policies in order to maintain the federal funding.

Well, where do we start?

First, I am old enough to remember Title IX and "transgender values" were not in the mix. I understand that times change, but Congress needs to vote "yes or no" on this issue. You can't use a 1972 statute to accomplish a 2022 liberal fantasy about transgenderism. Force every member of Congress to vote on this. The 1972 law should be changed by Congress, not by the Secretary of Education. By the way, did anyone vote for this during the election?

Second, this decision will drive more parents to home-schooling or low-cost private schools. Unfortunately, some parents won't be able to do it, and those kids will be in the middle of a cultural war rather than learning to read and write.

The so-called moderate could end this nonsense in a minute. The moderate could send the issue to Congress for another vote.

Who said that he was a moderate anyway?

Did anyone ask the fans?

(My new American Thinker post)

Once again, we see baseball just getting a little too cute.  As a long time fan, I want the game the way it was, i.e. double plays and no woke!

Down in Tampa, the Rays  have a wonderful young team.  They compete with the high payroll squads and do so well.  The Rays were the 2020 short season AL champs and won 100 games in 2021.  Tampa has a baseball future, to say the least.

So what do you when your young team is super exciting?  I would talk baseball 24/7 and encourage the fans to show up and cheer.  There are probably millions of baseball teams around who'd wish for a team like that.

So what they do in Tampa?  Someone decided to go woke, did not check with the fans and Governor Ron DeSantis reacted with his pen:

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) vetoed $3.1 billion in spending as he signed a $109.9 billion budget Thursday, slashing funds that would have, in part, gone toward a youth sports complex earmarked as a possible spring training facility for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Republican cited the need to protect the state "against what very well may be a Biden-induced recession" at the signing ceremony. The facility in question, in Pasco County, would have cost $35 million. The veto comes after the Rays published a call to end gun violence in the aftermath of the Texas and New York mass shootings, and a report from OutKick said it learned that the decision was indeed in response to the team "politicizing" the massacres.

The Rays did politicize the Uvalde shooting by getting woke cute.   You can do a minute of silence and express your support for the families without getting woke about it.

When is baseball going to stay out of politics?   It's not the business of a baseball team to go woke by turning its support for the victims into another misleading attack on assault weapons.  If you do then there are consequences.
