Give'em a gun

(My new American Thinker post)

As my late father used to say, beware of polls.  He used to joke that there were more polls than gas stations in the U.S.  So I always look at polls with a good sense of skepticism even if I agree with the results.  The latest Trafalgar poll has some interesting news about guns and teachers.  This is the story:

In the wake of the deadly Uvalde elementary school shooting, the heated topic of gun laws is once again a major forefront of people’s minds. Though a majority of Americans believe arming teaching will make schools more safe.

A recent poll conducted by The Trafalgar Group, surveyed 1,091 general election voters and found that 57.5 percent of voters believe schools are somewhat or much more dangerous without teachers who carry a legal firearm and are properly trained Ito use it. This leaves just over a mere 30 percent who oppose it.

Again, it's a poll, but I think that this one is correct.  It confirms what I believe that Americans want safe schools first and foremost. They want to know that the premises are safe and their kids will be safe.

Every time that we have a mass shooting, the Democrats go crazy trying to focus on gun control.  But Americans are  smarter than that.  Americans understand that you can't deal with school shooters without addressing the culture that produces these young men, whether fatherlessness or collapse of the family unit.  In other words, Americans know that laws will not stop gun violence or keep criminals from getting guns.

What would Casey Stengel say about the Biden presidency?

 (My new American Thinker post)

Biden's presidency reminds me of that great Casey Stengel quote about losing:

"Been in this game one-hundred years, but I see new ways to lose 'em I never knew existed before."

Casey was probably talking about his 1962 New York Mets, the expansion team that lost 120 games.  Nobody expected them to win and the nation's economy or national security was not at stake at the old Polo Grounds.  It was baseball, even if it was not very good baseball.

I think that many people, including me, expected Biden to do a lot better than what we are watching on a daily basis.  It's a mess when your press secretary has to say that she did not listen to your Naval Academy speech.  By the way, this is the speech in which Biden claimed having been appointed but the dates don't make sense.

Then we read later that President Biden is frustrated about his staff correcting him all of the time. Wonder how frustrated the staff must be?

What we are watching is a presidency in collapse, even if there is nothing that the nation can do about it.  I agree with Michael Goodwin:

Yet now we know, according to NBC, that Biden is alternately frustrated, annoyed, rattled and unhappy. The network says he is “mystified” over the poll numbers and quotes an unnamed source who says, “He’s now lower than Trump, and he’s really twisted about it.”

The overarching theme is that the president feels himself to be a victim of circumstances, friends and opponents. He believes he doesn’t get enough credit for what he views as accomplishments, Republicans don’t get enough blame for his failures and fellow Democrats don’t go on television enough to defend him.

He sounds like a lonely man. And a very confused one.

Biden’s no Washington rookie and you would think that somewhere in his nearly 50 years in government, he would have realized that no president has succeeded by whining and feeling sorry for himself. If you want a pity party, stay out of politics.

A mess.  It makes me wonder how many times recently Biden has turned to Jill and said:  "We  should have stayed in Delaware."

Biden has himself to blame.  He surrounded himself with a bunch of people who just wanted to delete everything with Trump's name on it.  They misunderstood the election.  There was no Biden landslide or even comfortable victory.   It was a hard-fought campaign that called for someone to heal rather divide the nation even further.

Mona Lisa, a bouffon has smeared you

(My new American Thinker post)

Once upon a time, it was "Mona Lisa men have named you".   Today, the lady with the mystic smile who inspired one of Nat King Cole's greatest songs motivated a climate change activist to express his disapproval about something in the air.  This is the story:

Paris crowds bustling to see the Mona Lisa at the Musée du Louvre on Sunday were shocked to witness a man attempt to smash the protective glass cas e surrounding the famous portrait, before then smearing cake across its surface. The act of vandalism is thought to have been an environment-related protest.

Eyewitnesses told French press that the man had disguised himself as an "old lady" in a wheelchair, wearing lipstick and a wig. He leapt out of the chair to attack the work and then later threw flower petals on the ground. He has not yet been identified by local media.

Videos shared on social media show the man being escorted out of the gallery by museum security.

In French, he says: "Think of the planet… there are people who are destroying the planet, think about that… That's why I did it."

And so it goes.  I guess that smearing the portrait is going to remind us that we should go green, or buy more electric cars or just impose a carbon tax.   Who knows what else he was thinking?

I guess that the good news is that he did not damage the classic.  He did of course get his 15 minutes of fame which is what he wanted in the first place.

It is the kind of climate change fanaticism, all of the headlines about the world disappearing in the next decade, that makes this movement look so foolish.  The world is not going to disappear any time soon and neither is Mona Lisa, who will continue to attract more and more visitors.

What will happen to the guy dressed up as an old lady in a wheelchair? Maybe he will get spend some time in jail for trying to destroy public property. Maybe he will end up on MSNBC and explain that Donald Trump made him do it.

Or, maybe the serious people who care about the environment will cut ties with this "bouffon," as the French call a clown.  Yes, they should tell these exhibitionists to take their act elsewhere.
