There were a couple of news reports about impeachment this week:
First, a California Democrat wants to impeach President Trump again or so he said on where else but MSNBC:
Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) joins Hallie Jackson to discuss an upcoming war powers resolution in the House to prevent President Trump from escalating the conflict with Iran. Khanna describes any further action by the President that is not sanctioned by Congress as a "potentially impeachable offense."
Why not? Let's write articles of impeachment for the rest of the year and hold on to them until the US Senate adheres to our demands. What could be better than a US House doing nothing but impeachment proceedings for the rest of the year?
Second, it appears that Majority Leader has the simple majority he needs:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has the votes to quash Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer’s (N.Y.) demands to require additional witnesses testify at the start of President Trump’s impeachment trial. Two key moderate senators, Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), on Monday evening backed McConnell’s position that the Senate should follow the precedent of the 1999 Clinton impeachment trial and defer until later in the process the question of calling additional witnesses.
So what happens now? "God only knows" as Brian Wilson wrote but we are watching a Democrat Party a bit too infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome.
