It’s the dirty story of a dirty man

It’s the dirty story of a dirty man:

Graham Platner continues to torpedo his own chances, and I’m not sure how Susan Collins got so lucky.

----------------------

Like that song by The Beatles, this mess in Maine, “It’s the dirty story of a dirty man and his clinging wife doesn’t understand.

The latest from Maine is really something, and one wonders how Senator Collins got so lucky.  Glad she did.  This is from The Hill:

A sexting scandal is threatening to torpedo the insurgent Senate campaign of Democrat Graham Platner, who may represent the party’s best chance of ousting longtime GOP incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (Maine).

Planter reportedly sent sexually explicit messages to multiple women, something his wife, Amy Gertner, discovered in spring 2025.

Gertner notified Platner’s campaign last year, and the campaign decided to deem it a private matter, a campaign official told The Wall Street Journal.

Now the issue is public, and it’s become the latest threat to a campaign critical for Democratic chances of winning back the Senate. The party needs to gain four seats to win back the majority, and doing so without winning back Maine is an exceptionally high hurdle.

Platner is now blaming the media, saying something like they want to destroy his marriage.  Or I’ve heard some of his supporters say that this stuff is irrelevant because it’s all about Senator Collins allowing rich people not to pay their fair share of taxes.  It reminds some of Democrat women going on TV and defending President Clinton’s Oval Office behavior (remember Monica?) on the grounds that it didn’t impact their mutual funds or stock market investments.

Platner may be dropping out soon, but Governor Mills is not exactly the one that Democrats want to send to D.C. to fight Trump.  I don’t get the impression that the governor is the screaming type, or the type of candidate who wants to go to D.C. and call Trump a bunch of names.

Again, Susan Collins looks more and more like she’s returning for another term.  I’ve had a lot of respect for her ever since she gave that speech defending Judge Kavanaugh back in 2018.

Maybe Platner should consider becoming a paperback writer.  As for his wife, I'm sorry to see our politics turn into that but then, as Bob Dylan wrote, “Love is just a four-letter word.”
