Let’s go back and remember a president at a critical time in U.S. history.
It was a Christmas of mixed feelings as a war veteran told me. On one hand, many guys were happy to be back home. On the other hand, there were lots of empty chairs because not everyone made it back. My late friend, who died in 2021, said that he was thrilled to be home, but he couldn’t stop thinking about his buddies left behind.
Today, we remember President Truman and Christmas 1945, or 80 years ago.
It was Christmas 1945 and President Truman had just completed an incredible year. Most Americans did not know who he was the year before, and now he was making some of the most important announcements of the century.
