Didn't we fight a Civil War to prevent states and cities from disobeying federal laws? Isn't federal law supreme on matters of immigration?
The resistance has a new star or the Mayor of Atlanta:
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on Thursday signed an executive order to permanently stop the city jail from receiving people detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).The Mayor refers to inhumane policies but does say a word about the Obama administration separating families or that Democrat majorities never passed immigration reform.
The order also directs the Atlanta City Department of Corrections chief to formally request that ICE officials transfer all current detainees from the Atlanta City Detention Center as soon as possible.
Let's hope that AG Sessions reminds the Mayor of Atlanta that she does not choose what federal laws to obey or disobey.
