(My new American Thinker post)
"Bush Derangement Syndrome" is alive and well in the 5th year of Obama. The latest expression of BDS is blaming the president's failure in Congress to get approval to go to war in Syria on Iraq.
It goes like this: We didn't find WMDs in Iraq and now everyone is skeptical of getting involved militarily in Syria.
Let's not get into an Iraq War debate right now. We do know that it was President Clinton who bombed Iraq several times over WMDs. We remembered Senator Hillary Clinto saying that Saddam had contacts with Al Qaeda. Finally, we've all seen the videos of Democrats saying that Saddam had WMDs. In fact, there was a bipartisan consensus about Iraq until the Democrats began to play politics when things got rough in 2006.
Syria is not about Iraq or anything else that came before. Syria is "Made by Obama," a problem born out of a total and complete lack of leadership and vision.
Syria is about "incompetence", as Peter Wehner described this week:
"This latest volte-face by the president is evidence of a man who is completely overmatched by events, weak and confused, and deeply ambivalent about using force. Yet he's also desperate to get out of the corner he painted himself into by declaring that the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime would constitute a "red line." As a result he's gone all Hamlet on us. Not surprisingly, Obama's actions are being mocked by America's enemies and sowing doubt among our allies. (Read this New York Timesstory for more.)"
Syria, and leading from behind in Libya, are exhibits of what happens when the US wants to be one of the guys rather than top wolf.
A superpower is not another name in the list of nations. This is not the Olympics when countries march in alphabetical order.
We are the superpower and need to behave like one. A US president does not draw a red line and then say that he didn't.
My guess is that the world is longing for US leadership, or at least a US president who is clear and respected by our enemies.
Finally, we are in the 5th year of Obama and blaming Bush insults our intelligence.
You can hear CANTO TALK here.
