We learned yesterday that Pres BO has arbitrarily changed our immigration laws.
We will now grant "work permits" to the thousands of young people who make up the "dreamer" generation, or the kids who grew up in the US or were brought here by their parents.
What's wrong with this idea?
First, this is unconstitutional. Pres BO does not have the constitutional authority to create, change or modify laws passed by Congress. (Some needs to remind Pres BO that this is the US not Venezuela)
Second, where are the "dreamers" going to find jobs?
Today, Ed Morrissey of Hot Air reviews a Washington Post story about youth unemployment in the US:
"With potentially as many as 800,000 new workers flooding into the
system, what happens to the millions of Americans who can’t find work
now?"
Who is going to explain to the parents of unemployed teenagers that their kids now have additional competition for a smaller group of jobs? How is that going to play in all those counties between NY City and San Francisco?
Ed is right:
We repeat that this "immigration" move was a purely desperate one by a president who keeps dropping in the polls.
The move was also compounded by the Dems' majority unwillingness to support Pres BO with any kind of immigration or Dream Act legislation. We need to remind Hispanics that Pres BO waited until 4 months before the election to lift a finger on The Dream Act.
It won't be long before a lot of US parents ask the same question that was shouted at Pres BO yesterday: Why are you choosing foreign workers over Americans?
Pres BO will drop even further in the polls when the public has a chance to digest that.

Ed is right:
"We’re not creating enough jobs to keep up with population growth as it
is.
With this new policy in place, Obama will introduce hundreds of
thousands of suddenly-eligible workers into an economy with an 8.2%
nominal unemployment rate, a 14.8% U-6 un/underemployed rate, with a
civilian participation rate that has plummeted from 65.7% at the start
of the Obama recovery in June 2009 (the same as it was when he took
office, too) to 63.8%, lower than it was when Reagan faced his first
midterm election.
Those who are already struggling to find jobs are not
only going to face more competition for those slots, the glut of labor
will depress entry-level wage."
