February 2005: President Bush's historic appointments

Back in February 2005, President Bush got off to a historic start with his second term Cabinet appointments. 

President Bush appointed a black woman as Secretary of State and a Mexican-American man as Attorney General.

Imagine that.  A conservative Republican appointed the first black woman as Secretary of State. She replaced the first black man as Secretary of State Collin Powell.

I guess that Republicans are indeed the party of Lincoln!

Imagine more.   A conservative Republican appointed the first Mexican-American as Attorney General.

Alberto Gonzalez is a great American story, or as they say "Only in America". 

He is the son of poor Mexican immigrants, worked hard and made his way to Harvard Law School.   In the 1990's, he met Governor Bush in Texas and will soon be the next Attorney General of the US.

We are very proud that a fellow Texan became the first Hispanic Attorney General of the US.

Well done, President Bush!

2005: Secretary of State Condi Rice

On this day in 2005, President Trump appointed Condi Rice as Secretary of State.     She played a foreign policy role with President Reagan, President Bush and the second President Bush.

2005: No filibuster on Alito

Good sense prevailed in the US Senate today. By 72-25, the filibuster failed. Kennedy and other Democrats could not get the 41 votes to have their way.

Future Democrat presidents will remember this day. In other words, future Democrat presidents won't have to put up with a filibuster when they nominate a liberal to the Supreme Court.

Now, let's move on to the up and down vote.   Alito is a great judge and he deserves something more than a party vote.

We remember Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957)

We remember Humphrey Bogart who was born in New York on this day in 1899.  He died in 1957.  

Over the years, Bogart became one of the legendary actors of Hollywood, from "Casablanca" and "The treasure of Sierra Madre".   

A great actor!

President Bush and historians

Historians will eventually look back at President Bush.  Frankly, we don't know what they will write.

Of course, I voted for Pres. Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Pres. Bush correctly identified an enemy and fought back.

In my view, Pres. Bush will be remembered as the Winston Churchill of our times, the man who told us what we did not want to hear!

Also, Pres. Bush shares a quality with our great presidents. He was not afraid to make unpopular decisions. This was a sharp contrast with Pres. Clinton who had polls for breakfast every morning.

You may recall that a liberal Democrat supported Pres. Bush's re-election in 2004. Take a look at Why President Bush is a Hero By Ed Koch:

"George Bush is a hero to me because he has courage. The President does what he believes to be in the best interest of the United States. He sticks with his beliefs, no matter how intense the criticism and invective that are directed against him every day."

Koch was right.  My guess is that historians will agree with Mr. Koch.

October 2004: Our first blog post

How about a little history?

We started this blog on October 29, 2004 by predicting the reelection of Bush 52-47% and about 300 electoral votes. It turned out 51-48% and 286 EVs. I was wrong about New Jersey. I thought that New Jersey would flip for Bush because of all of the corruption and Democrat scandals in that state.

Keep reading the blog.   I don’t offend anyone but I tell you where I stand.   Again, we thank you for your support!

September 2004: CBS and the fake Bush documents

We remember September 2004 and one of the biggest media blunders in recent memory.  

During the 2004 election, CBS broke a story about George W. Bush’s military service.  Eventually, they had to retract it and apologize because the story was wrong.

And that was it.  Dan Rather was finished and a massive hit on President Bush blew up in their faces.  Rather could never recover and moved on.

2004: How Dan Rather got lots of us to start blogging

Back in September 2004, many of us were trying out to figure out this new medium of “blogging”.   Finally, it was Dan Rather and that awful story about President George W. Bush that got me started for good.

During the ’04 election, I warned my liberal friends outside of Texas to avoid the Bush military service story. 

As I told them on the phone, or even some media people who called for interviews or reactions, the story surfaced in 1994 when George W. Bush challenged incumbent Governor Anne Richards. 

It came out during the campaign and Bush answered some questions. Richards dropped it, in the same way that Al Gore killed it in 2000. 

I warned my liberal friends to stay away from this story, because it was not a story.  It was a lot of nonsense promoted by people with an anti-Bush agenda rather than reporting the truth.

I said: Don’t fall for this garbage.   

But my liberal friends are bad listeners. They should listen to me more often. 

The liberals of 2004 could not avoid "the red meat" of an anti-Bush story.

They fell for it like a bunch of suckers eating out of Karl Rove’s hand. 

And so they learned the hard way that the story was nonsense, as many of us had warned them!  

Eventually, they had to admit that the documents could not verified. 

I was so angry at that CBS story back in 2004 that I decided to “blog post” my opinions.

Thanksgiving 2003: President Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq

Back in 2003, President Bush showed up in Iraq for Thanksgiving.   It was a great story and must have been quite a treat for the soldiers enjoying some turkey.

For security reasons, the President's trip was such a secret that even First Lady Laura Bush, and his parents, were not told about it.    The announced plan was a trip to Crawford, Texas, but Air Force One turned east to Iraq.

A few years later, President Bush wrote about Iraq in a great book.

2003: Columbia exploded

We woke up to a terrible report about Columbia.     

On this day in 2003, television crews captured Columbia‘s tragic disintegration upon reentering the earth’s atmosphere. All aboard were killed.
