A few memories and thoughts about May 3:
"Those were the days my friend": Mary Hopkin, the beautiful young woman from Wales who sang so many wonderful songs, was born on this day in 1950. Mary is best known for "Those were the days", now available in a digital format.
"Godfather of soul": We remember James Brown who was born on this day in 1933. He left us a huge legacy of songs and albums.
"The book that everybody had to read in school": Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence on this day in 1469. We remember him for "The Prince", or the book that he published in 1532 when he was briefly jailed.
"Time flies": We say happy birthday to Francesco Stephen Castelluccio who was born in New Jersey on this day in 1934. We know him as Frankie Valli.
"Everybody's favorite host": We remember the great Robert Osborne, who was born on this day in 1932. He was the face of TCM, the great movie channel that so many of us love. He passed away in 2017.
Once in a while, we have a little free time to catch an old movie. Not long ago, they were showing “55 days at Peking”. This is a story based in China during The Boxer Rebellion.
