A word about May 11

We remember May 11:

We salute the beautiful state of Minnesota.    The 32nd state joined the union on this day in 1858.

We remember Irving Berlin who was born in Tyumen, Russia, on this day in 1888.    Berlin moved to the US as a child.   Over time, he became one of the most popular songwriters in the US.   His songs included "Alexander's Ragtime Band," "What’ll I Do" and "White Christmas."    He also wrote the soundtrack for several movies such as "Puttin’ on the Ritz", "Easter Parade" and "Annie Get Your Gun"He died in 1989, at age 101.

We remember Milt Pappas was born on this day in 1939.  He died in 2016 at the age of 76.   Pappas will always be remembered as the man traded for Frank Robinson.    It turned out to be a great trade for the Orioles with Robinson leading the team to 4 of the next 6 World Series.

We remember Eric Burdon who was born in England on this day in 1941Burdon was the lead singer for The Animals, from "House of the rising sun" to my super favorite "San Franciscan nights".
