"Pride of the Yankees":   Lou Gehrig's baseball career ended on this day in 1939 after playing in 2,130 consecutive games.  He died two years later.  

"It's my party":  Lesley Sue Goldstein was born in New York on this day in 1946.   She died in 2015.     We know her as Lesley Gore.

We remember Arnold George Dorsey who was born in India on this day in 1936.    We know him as Englebert Humperdinck, a great favorite of the ladies over the years. 

It was the end of an era.   We remember that J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the FBI, died on this day in 1972.   Hoover was appointed Director in 1924.
