1) Our banks have loans to countries, as well as public & private enterprises. We are exposed. We can't afford a collapse because it will put pressure on our banks.
2) Europe buys billions of dollars in US products. We export a lot of stuff over there and can not afford any further drops in demand.
3) There will be more and more calls for a bailout. We can't do that. We can't afford it. Also, you can't bailout the big "fat mess" in Europe anyway. We need to force the European political class to make the tough calls, hit bottom and squeeze "the welfare state" out of their system.

Yes, I understand that Rangers' fans are very frustrated with how the team played KC and Oakland.
It's hard to believe that KC would sweep 2 from Texas. The split with Oakland was more understandable because the A's are playing well.
Here is the bottom line: The Rangers are doing great. Josh Hamilton is on his way to an MVP year. Joe Nathan has been great. The young pitchers are performing well.
The fans want their team to win every game. They can't!
We discussed a couple of more issues on the Thursday night show.
First, is Ron Washington resting players too early in the season? I don't think so.
Second, should MLB implement some replay system. Yes, and for sure.
We've seen too many blown calls lately. The umpires are human and it's time to give a hand with all of the available technology.

Do you recall the last time a president's budget proposal got "0" votes in back to back years?
I can't remember or recall the last time that something like this happened.
Add to this that the Senate Dem majority voted down other budgets too.
Here is the problem: The Senate has not passed a budget in 3 years. Can someone remind Majority Leader Reid that it is illegal for the Senate to punt on its budgetary responsibilities?
There is some good news: We may get a new president and Senate next year. Perhaps they will finally pass a budget!

It's supposed to be about history, unity and connecting our 44 presidents.
We learned that Pres BO is now "present" in many of the biographies. Let me explain:
"The Obama team went into the pages of U.S. presidents
dating back to Calvin Coolidge to add friendly looking "Did you know?"
fact boxes to the end of their bios.
Those additions were used to plug a
host of Obama administration initiatives, ranging from the health care
overhaul to the so-called "Buffett Rule" to his green-energy policies.
For instance, the following line was added to the official bio of the
late President Ronald Reagan:
"In a June 28, 1985, speech, Reagan
called for a fairer tax code, one where a multimillionaire did not have a
lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling
for the same with the Buffett Rule."
The White House is coming under heavy criticism from conservatives for the changes, and not just to Reagan's page. "
My first reaction was to laugh and filed this under a Dennis Miller joke on The O'Reilly Factor.
My second reaction was to get angry. In other words, is there a limit to this man's narcissism?
My third reaction was to ask whether anyone at this White House is over 15 years old.
I can understand an isolated reference to Pres FDR, a popular connection for many Dems. Or, a connection to Pres LBJ and some of the Great Society legislation of the 1960s.
Again, this is so weird that you have to wonder about the people working in this government.
Who came up with this idea?
Perhaps it was the same one who thought that creating a distraction such as "the GOP war on women" would help Pres BO.
Or, perhaps it was the guy who wrote that unemployment would not rise over 8% if we passed the stimulus of early '09.
Or, perhaps it was the expert who thought that sending Pres BO to a Hollywood fundraiser the day after the "same sex marriage" announcement was a good idea.
I don't know what "expert" came up with this one about inserting Pres BO in the biographies of other presidents. I don't think that he is much of an expert.

The Colombia Free Trade Agreement will finally go into effect today. It was negotiated by Pres Bush and delayed by the Dems and Pres BO.
The CFTA was always about jobs. It was about expanding commerce and creating jobs in both countries.
It was such a good idea that the Dems opposed it to pander to the unions.
IBD has a good outline of some of the more obvious benefits from the CFTA:
"With the U.S.-Colombia free trade pact going into force Tuesday, the
U.S. stands to gain $1.1 billion in new sales to Colombia, meaning
plenty of demand for Long Beach. In anticipation, U.S. trade with
Colombia increased 19% last year alone.
And ports like Charleston, Miami, Houston and New Orleans may reap even bigger benefits. That means jobs — lots of them.
The U.S.-Colombia deal took six years to pass and the news "narrative" was all about how free trade somehow costs jobs."
Of course, the narrative about costing jobs was wrong.
We say hello to Colombia and look forward to a prosperous and very long economic relationship between the two countries.
Colombia is a developing country and a wonderful ally in South America. Colombia should also be congratulated for standing up to the cartels. We salute Pres Uribe and the Colombia military for defending their country.
By the way, will Pres BO now say that Pres Bush was right about The CFTA?
I don't know if Pres BO will recognize Pres Bush's visionary attitude about trade with Latin America. Nevertheless, it's worth remembering that it was Pres Bush who fought to expand commercial relations with Latin America.

This poll should hit The White House between the eyes. My point is that Pres BO did not make any friends by "evolving" into same sex marriage. On the contrary, independents believe that the decision was all about politics. Also, he probably didn't win any voters in all of those counties between NY City and San Francisco.

Frankly, I like the filibuster because it forces both parties to find mutual ground in legislation. It forces consensus. It forces bipartisanship. It also makes it more difficult for "populism" to win the day. It requires the majority party to consider the minority party.
During our history, we've had a couple of instances where the majority party had 60 votes, or enough votes to make the filibuster meaningless.
Such a moment was 2009 when Pres BO & the Dem party had "a filibuster proof" US Senate. In other words, the GOP could not do a thing about any proposal out of the Dem Senate.
Back to the present.
We are living through some very weird times, or a time when Dems and their useful idiots in the Hispanic left, continue to treat Hispanics like stupid fools who don't know anything.
"Illegal immigrant students and members of the House sued the Senate
this week to try to overturn the upper chamber’s filibuster rule,
arguing that the 60-vote supermajority requirement violates the
Constitution and is blocking important legislation such as
legalization for illegal immigrants."
Let's remember that The Dream Act went down during "the lame duck session" at the end of 2010. (A "lame duck" session is the time between the election and the inauguration of the new Congress)
Let's also remember that Pres BO & Dem congressional leaders did not put The Dream Act to a vote before the election. In other words, Pres BO, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid did not want Dems making a difficult vote before the election.
Is this political cowardice or what? I hope that Hispanics remember that the next time that they get "romantic" when they hear Pres BO's "Cinco de Mayo" speeches.
The Dream Act went down despite the fact that the Dems had a 59-41 majority in 2010 and 60-40 in 2009. In other words, the Republicans did not have the votes to use the filibuster to hold up The Dream Act.
So was it the filibuster or the unwillingness of the Dem party to pass The Dream Act?
The answer is that the Dem super majority did not pass it. I would add that they never meant to pass it!
So what do you do when a Senate with 60 Dem votes does not pass The Dream Act?
Do you blame the Dems that you voted for? Do you hold them accountable for broken promises?
I guess that you come up with another gimmick, or blaming the "filibuster" because Dem Senators did not vote for The Dream Act.
When will Hispanics understand the truth? When will Hispanics get that the Dems "te estan tomando el pelo"?
First, the Dems told them what they you wanted to hear in 2008; and,
Second, they are telling them again what they want to hear by blaming the filibuster.
The problem is not the filibuster. The problem is that Hispanics keep voting for people who tell them what they want to hear.
It's time for Hispanics to hold politicians accountable for their promises rather than engage in gimmicks like pushing lawsuits against the filibuster.
Again, the problem is not the filibuster. The problem is that Hispanics don't hold Dems accountable for anything. They just keep voting for them and wondering why they never keep their promises.

It's hard to remember an election quite like this one.
We may want to think of 1980 when Pres Carter was an unpopular incumbent. However, Pres Carter led in the polls until the last few days.
We may want to remember 2004 when Pres Bush ran as the incumbent. However, Pres Bush never ran away from his record.
So what does 2012 look like? I don't recall a recent election like this. I just can't recall the last time that an incumbent was so busy distracting his voters, and the rest of us, from his record.
The economic front is confusing. We continue to see these jobs reports that confirm that a lot of people have giving up on looking for work. This is why you get an unemployment rate going down at the same time that more and more people have quit looking.
The foreign policy front is more confusing. Yes, Pres BO has continued most the anti-terror policies, including GITMO. However, there is a sense around the world that Pres BO is not leading. You get the feeling that a lot of foreign leaders wish that he had a little more "Bush" in him.
Distraction is now the tactic. It started with the "war on women" and it has moved into "same sex marriage".
Gov Romney has played this smart. He is not getting into "social issues" debates with the Obama campaign. He has kept a distance and focused on the economy.

Pres BO's biggest advantages are incumbency and a news media still in the tank for him. (Just read the recent front page Washington Post piece on Mitt Romney)
Pres BO's major weakness is his record. He can't run on his record and that's why we get "a distraction a week", from the "war on women", the scare tactics against "hispanos" and GOP wants to throw your grandmother off the cliff.
Pres BO also has a "average white guy" problem, as Selena Zito points out. Pres BO's problem is that Ohio, PA and lots of other critical states are full of these guys.
We are still 6 months away and things could change. However, this is not the place where any incumbent wants to be as we approach Memorial Day.

2) What is the relevance something that happened in 1965 to 2012? Will The Washington Post do similar inquiries into Pres BO's youth?
3) The real loser is serious journalism. We need serious journalists doing serious work. This is not serious work. There is no pattern of bad behavior in Mitt Romney's adult life. On the contrary, Mitt Romney's life is free of personal or business scandals.
