So do we burn that movie of Chuck Connors playing Geronimo?

As every smart Democrat has to know, this madness over historic symbols, and now movies, is not going to end well for them.
The latest insanity from the left is actors and the characters they play in movies.
Please check this out:
Mandy Patinkin isn’t an A-list movie star. He’s a huge draw on Broadway all the same.
It’s why the minds behind “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812” cast him to boost lagging ticket sales.
 
Not so fast.
The veteran performer wasn’t the right skin color, apparently. The “Homeland” star dropped out after some complained he was replacing an actor of color.
The play subsequently closed.
A similar event happened this week. Actor Ed Skrein (“The Transformer Refueled,” “Deadpool”) snared a role in the upcoming “Hellboy” reboot. Skrein celebrated the news on Twitter. 
Then the Social Justice Warriors pounced. The character in question was of mixed Asian descent in the comic books. Skrein is white.
So the actor voluntarily bowed out, announcing the decision via a tweet that read like a hostage’s coerced note.
This is insanity. This is what wipes out political parties between the coasts.
It does raise a couple of questions.  What happens to that movie Geronimo, where Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) plays the famous Indian warrior?  I caught that movie a few months ago, and it was entertaining.  It was probably not “culturally pure,” but who cares?  It’s a movie, people, and you don’t have to watch it if it offends you.
Will the left now call on Hollywood to burn that movie because Connors was white and Geronimo was an American Indian?
It gets more interesting when you come to today’s Broadway.  Hamilton is played by Javier Muñoz.  He was born to Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, N.Y., as I learned.
The bad news is that this is insanity, and it’s angering people who don’t want political correctness spoiling the Saturday matinee.
The good news is that this is not going to end well for the left or the party the left stands with.

The problem with DACA was President Obama

In the interest of full disclosure, let me add that I’ve favored some form of legalization for the so called “dreamers”.
It’s hard to punish a 20-year-old because his parents brought him illegally when he was 3. I can cite examples of youngsters in Texas that I’ve spoken to.   
At the same time, President Obama’s governing by executive pen was wrong and rather cynical for a couple of reasons:
First, President Obama knew that his “pen” would eventually be broken by a court decision; and,
Second, President Obama had to know that he’d be leaving a bunch of “dreamers” stranded whenever his order was reversed.    
Obama’s DACA was the political equivalent of giving someone a check and knowing that there are no funds in the bank to cover it. Super cynical, to say the least. The executive order was President Obama reacting to the 2014 mid-term elections and hoping to energize Hispanics behind a Clinton candidacy. It was about as cynical a presidential election as I can recall.
We hear that President Trump is going to tackle DACA and allow some of the people to say on the plan until their term expires.   
We hear something even better. We understand that Congress will pick up the ball and maybe draft a new law that legalizes some of these people.
This is from McClatchy:    
Conservative lawmakers led by Thom Tillis are crafting a bill they call the conservative Dream Act that would provide a path to permanent residency to people brought here illegally as children, offering President Donald Trump an escape hatch on one of his most vexing immigration challenges.
The legislation creates an avenue for Trump to both fulfill a campaign promise to end an Obama-era program known as DACA while yielding to what appears to be his personal desire to let these immigrants remain in the country.
“Who cares about DACA if there’s a Dream Act,” said a Republican involved with the policy negotiations and aware of Tillis’ plan.
Frankly, the GOP should jump at the opportunity to legalize some of these youngsters. It would allow then to stay here and continue their education or even serve in the military.   
Also, it would break the back of the Democrats’ worst demagoguery: that the GOP is anti-Hispanic or anti-immigrant.
Some on our side will immediately play the “amnesty” card. However, this is not amnesty, especially if you can attach some conditions to the legalization such as school work, no criminal record, or military service.
I see it as a great opportunity for the GOP to govern and solve a very complicated problem. I also see it as a way of breaking the hold that Democrats have on the Mexican American vote.

“Made for each other”: Cuba and North Korea

Like that famous song (“Made for each other“), Cuba and North Korea were indeed made for each other.  
We are learning more and more about that dangerous relationship between two dictators desperately surviving and looking for every possible way of putting some cash in their regime’s pockets.      
Cuba and North Korea have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1960, the newspaper notes—the year after Fidel Castro’s bloody communist revolution stormed Havana, putting in place a repressive regime known for its mass murders by firing squad, harrowing labor camps, and support for terrorist organizations throughout the hemisphere.
North Korea’s communist regime is one of the few on the planet with a more repressive history than Cuba’s, as decades of human rights advocacy reports finding evidence of torture, public executions for “crimes” such as possessing Western entertainment media, mass starvation, and forced worship of the ruling Kim family.  
Indeed, made for each other.    
I would add my suspicion that it may have been North Korea behind that so-called “sonic attack” on US diplomats.    
After all, Cuba and North Korea signed an intelligence- and technology-sharing agreement.    It allows North Korea access to intelligence gathered by Cuba’s vast spy network.  
We remind you that such network is now operating more openly in the US since the two countries opened Embassies.

Raul Castro did not get that memo

Not long ago, President Obama decided to open a U.S. embassy in Havana, facilitate trade and contacts, and then watch a baseball game with Raul Castro. We were told that this new approach would open up Cuba. Accordingly, Cubans would see what they’ve been missing for and demand it.
Well, the theory ran into reality, or the fact that Raul Castro never saw the opening with the U.S. as a way of improving the lives of Cubans. Instead, he just wanted the U.S. to become his latest sugar daddy, especially now that no one lends him money, the USSR is gone, and China is not so easy to do business with.
Let’s check out the latest of how showering Cuba with U.S. dollars and American tourists has impacted the Cuban people.
We learned this week that there are over 40 websites that the Cuban government will not allow to be seen in the island, as we see in this report:

The service is blocked in the country, along with dozens of other websites, according to new report from the Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI), which works under the Tor Project. The study, published this week, shows just how censored Cuba’s internet still is.
Researchers from OONI monitored eight different internet access points in three different Cuban cities (Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and Santa Clara) between May 29 and and June 10 of this year. 
Their findings show that 41 different websites are blocked in the country, including the Cuban Free Press Project and Freedom House, an independent watchdog organization that advocates for greater civil liberties around the world. 
In total, OONI tested nearly 1,500 different websites in order to see which were restricted.
Most of the sites blocked have criticized the Cuban Castro regime (either directly or indirectly) according to the report. 
News sites that have published articles critical of the Cuban government made up the bulk of restricted sites.    
So let me get this straight. Are we just learning that the Castro regime does not like to hear criticisms or allow its critics to reach the island?
On the day that President Obama announced his new policy toward Cuba, I was with my sick father at the hospital. He listened to the speech and said something in Spanish that translates to this fool does not understand communists. No, he does not!
So we are really back to square one. Before the Obama opening, information was restricted and Obama did not understand communists. Thirty months later, information is still restricted in Cuba and Obama still does not understand communists.
