50 ways for experts to lose their expertise

You may remember that Paul Simon sang "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." When will The New York Times write an editorial called "50 ways for experts to lose their expertise"?
It turns out that everyone was lying, including those 50 experts who called the laptop Russian misinformation. Can't wait to see one of the 50 explain it to Representative Jim Jordan now that Hunter Biden admitted the laptop is his.
Wouldn't you love to see the Trump-Biden second debate now that we know that it was his laptop? As you may remember, President Trump kept bringing up Hunter and Biden the experts.
In other words, the whole Russia-Trump story, from collusion to the laptop to Hamilton 68, was fake. Roger Kimball gets it right:
So here we are. The entire “Russia Collusion” hoax was dreamed up, paid for, and set into action by Hillary Clinton’s campaign. It aimed at and succeeded in hobbling Trump’s first term, weighing it down with the $40 million fishing expedition conducted by senile former FBI chief Robert “What’s Fusion GPS?” Mueller.
And now we learn that all the ambient static about the Russkies are coming! the Russkies are coming! was similarly fabricated out of whole cloth. Here’s how it worked: Hamilton 68, a “research institute,” invents claims about Russian bots. Reporters then target public enemies like Devin Nunes, Mike Flynn, Tulsi Gabbard, or Donald Trump with the claims and, as Taibbi says, “headlines flow.”
The scam, he concludes, “needed just three elements: credentials of someone like ‘former FBI agent’ [Clint] Watts, the absence of any semblance of fact-checking, and the silence of companies like Twitter.”
And let me add a fourth element: Too many media outlets invested in Trump Derangement Syndrome. Let me repeat that this whole lie needed a megaphone and journalists looking for ratings were the perfect choice.
What happens now? I don't know, but it would help if a few media sources would look at the camera and admit that they were wrong and too invested in the Biden candidacy. We can't redo that second debate but we could admit that U.S. voters were not told the truth.
So how do the experts get their expertise back? For starters, they should admit that they were political hacks, not experts.

There is something wrong with people who celebrate this….

What's the celebration all about in Minnesota? Did the Vikings win? Twins add a shortstop? The Wild on the road to the Stanley Cup? The answer is not about sports or a drop in crime rates in Minneapolis. The answer is a celebration about abortion, or "reproductive rights" as they call it these days.
After Roe was overturned, we knew that states would decide the issue on their own. And so they did. Elections have consequences as we see in a 34-33 party-line vote. And in Minnesota they had a huge celebration to go with it. Not one Democrat had the guts to stand up and look at the abortion fanatics and say: This is too much. You can't go this far.
It's pathetic and so weak that it makes you wonder how these people sleep at night. I guess they sleep by calling it protecting reproductive health.
This is the story:
Gov. Tim Walz enshrined the right to abortion and other reproductive health care into Minnesota statutes Tuesday, signing a bill meant to ensure that the state's existing protections remain in place no matter who sits on future courts.
Democratic leaders took advantage of their new control of both houses of the Legislature to rush the bill through in the first month of the 2023 legislative session. They credit the backlash against the U.S. Supreme Court decision last summer to reverse Roe v. Wadefor their takeover of the state Senate and for keeping their House majority in a year when Republicans expected to make gains.
“After last year's landmark election across this country, we're the first state to take legislative action to put these protections in place,” Walz said at a signing ceremony flanked by over 100 lawmakers, providers and other advocates who worked to pass the bill.
Flanked by lawmakers applauding? No limitations on how many weeks into the pregnancy or the if the baby could survive outside the womb.
"Babies beware" is what I'm hearing from Minnesota. Let's hope that a future legislature can save the babies in Minnesota by reversing this insane legislation.

The answer is Max Alvis, who was born in Jasper, TX on this day in 1938.
Alvis played 8 seasons with Cleveland and then was traded to Milwaukee for the 1970 season.
He hit 99 HR over a 5-year span with the Indians.

It's now or never on the debt limit

In Washington, the fight over the debt limit tops the list of bipartisan messes. So let's blame both sides and finally get to work.
According to news reports, there are 24 GOP senators who want to do something. This is the story:
Nearly half of the Senate Republican Conference has signed on to a letter to President Biden warning they will not vote for any bill to raise the nation’s debt limit unless it’s connected to spending cuts to address the nation’s $31 trillion debt.
The letter, led by conservative Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Ted Budd (R-N.C.), says it is the policy of the Republican conference that any increase in the debt ceiling must be accompanied by cuts in federal spending or “meaningful structural reform in spending.”
“We, the undersigned members of the Senate Republican Conference, write to express our outright opposition to a debt-ceiling hike without real structural spending reform that reduces deficit spending and brings fiscal sanity back to Washington,” the senators wrote.
They cited the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act, which would automatically provide continuing appropriations to fund government if Congress fails to pass spending legislation by the end-of-year deadline, and the Full Faith and Credit Act, which would prioritize federal payments in case Congress doesn’t raise the debt limit, as “meaningful structural reform.”
“We do not intend to vote for a debt-ceiling increase without structural reforms to address current and future fiscal realities, actually enforce the budget and spending rules on the books, and manage out-of-control government policies,” they wrote.
Since 24 is not 49 the minority leader did not sign it. However, 24 can stop legislation. Furthermore, Senator Joe Manchin is in trouble back home and voting with the Democrats will not help him this time around. He may rebuild his image in West Virginia by standing tall. Maybe Senator Jon Tester of Montana is in the same boat. I don't know about Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona but she may surprise us. Also, I think that most of the voters are concerned with the direction of the country.
The Democrats will play "the default" card and try to scare some voters. The GOP can offset that by taking Medicare and Social Security off the table. In the meantime, it's important for the GOP to lay down some markers and understand that this may be the best time to make significant reforms to spending.
