No need for basics in Oregon

No wonder so many people in Oregon want to break away. From Portland's nightly Antifa show to 24/7 woke, the once beautiful Pacific coast state is out of control. It's a disgrace, as we see in this post from Jonathan Turley:
Many of us have long objected to the chronic failure of public schools in major cities like New York, Detroit, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore to achieve bare proficiency for many students in reading, writing, and math.
The response in many districts is for some to declare standardized testing or meritocracy as racist while other district eliminate special programs or schools for gifted students.
Oregon has found a simpler approach. Gov. Kate Brown (D) just signed a bill last month that drops any proficiency requirement in reading, writing or math, before graduation. Problem solved.
The governor has pleased the wokes, who see racism in math problems. At the same time, she condemned youngsters to fail in a world where the basics are essential to survive, from reading a job ad to filling out an application to balancing a checkbook.
So what's the point of public education if there are no standards? As I understand it, the reason that we have public education is so that everyone has access to those basics, such as reading, writing and math.
We built this amazing public school system that graduated millions over the years. They got their diploma and it was a piece of paper that assured society that they could move on to college and get a job.
So what are these youngsters going to do now? Who is going to hire someone who can't read, write, or add? I guess that there are jobs like that but they are not usually associated with high wages or better opportunities.
Back to Professor Turley:
With states like Oregon now eliminating the need to establish proficiency on basic subjects with standardized tests, American education faces the perfect storm.
Despite record expenditures on public schools, we are still failing students, particularly minority students, in teaching the basis subjects needed to succeed in life.
Yes, this is going to be a perfect storm but not a good one at all. At some point, the people in Oregon need to stop paying taxes and make their statement.

Gasoline prices, inflation, the border, and let's add Afghanistan to the growing list of things that did not have to happen. According to news reports, the U.S. is threatening to send the B-52's to send a message:
The U.S. Air Force has committed B-52 bombers and AC-130 gunships to support Afghan forces on the ground, Task & Purpose has confirmed. The Times of London was first to report about those U.S. aircraft being used to conduct airstrikes in Afghanistan.
No information was immediately available on how many airstrikes the B-52s and AC-130s have carried out recently.
Typically, AC-130s have been used in Afghanistan to support U.S. special operations forces but most American troops have left Afghanistan aside from several hundred service members at the embassy in Kabul.
Am I the only one who thinks that this is another Biden administration message problem? Sort of like everyone not vaccinated is a threat to public health except the people who cross the border?
Why is this happening? Because we left prematurely and announced our withdrawal on the media. The fact is that Afghanistan was safer for U.S. troops than our streets have been for police officers, i.e young officer Ella French killed in Chicago. American or NATO troops were not engaged in battles as we remember years ago. They were there to send a message to the terrorists and to the region that the U.S. does not leave its friends behind to get slaughtered by the incoming crew.
Last, but not least, I'm sure that all of those who supported us must be scared that the U.S. is calling on Americans to leave. Sadly, the women and girls who went to school over the last 20 years won't have the option to leave. They will pay the price of this crazy withdrawal.
Don't get me wrong. I am not calling for permanent war around the world. I do want the U.S. to defend its interests and leaving Afghanistan like this is a bad idea.

Happy birthday, President Obama.
Turning 60 is a nice thing and we hope that you had a good time with Michelle and the girls.
I do have a couple of questions:
Did you have to do it at your mansion and show the word how profitable your post-presidency has been?
Why not hold a party in Chicago and remind the world that you got your start as a community organizer? Don't you have a presidential library there?
Has any former president held a birthday party like this before? I don't recall.
The party itself was an ego trip of egotistical proportions. How many Americans relate to the photos that they saw or understand a mask less bash at a time that we're told that Delta is exploding from coast to coast?
Gold napkins, masks and backstage passes were emblazoned with 44X60, a reference to the 44th president’s 60th birthday, and bathroom amenities included antiperspirant wipes, a lint roller and Advil, according to the pictures.
Beckham, who reportedly performed a version of his hit “Birthday B—h” for the prez — who was also sung to by Alicia Keys and John Legend, later posted about the party.
“Had to delete everything due to the rules,” Beckham reportedly explained. “It was epic for sure. If any videos surface it’s going viral. He danced the whole time. Nobody ever seen Obama like this before.”
Gold napkins for a birthday party? I didn’t know that the federal stipend covered that.
Where is Dr. Fauci or Chuck Todd when we really need them? They spoke about the bikers spreading but not a question about the party or the border. Let's hope that AOC reminds everyone that there was a “little income distribution problem” at that party.
