Monday’s video: Where are they going to?
Where is Raul, and what happened to the Cuban generals?
Over just nine days this month, Cuban state media announced the deaths of five generals, sparking a wave of discussion and rampant speculation among analysts and exiles.
The senior military leaders all appear to have died between July 17 and 26. Some were serving and others retired, but all had lauded military careers. The youngest was 58. Most were in their 70s or 80s. It is not clear what caused the deaths, and there is no indication they were related.
The deaths of several generals in a short space of time come as the revolutionary vanguard that has led the communist country for six decades hands over power to a new generation.
A lot of things are happening in Cuba and much of it behind the curtains. It's hard to know for sure but the regime must be worried that the young are the ones marching.
Cuba is changing and I plan to write a future AT post from a free Cuba. It will honor my parents and their entire generation for standing up to these communist thugs.

Maybe we won't have Newsom to kick around anymore

"The times they are a-changing" or something like that. By the end of 2021, we may have new faces governing New York and California. In New York, it's probably just another Democrat. In California, it may be a Republican according to polling data:
Among minorities, Asian-Americans are Newsom’s strongest supporters with 62 percent saying they will vote against the recall measure.
But Hispanics are about split on keeping Newsom in office with 47 percent supporting the recall and 41 percent opposing it.
Whites strongly back kicking Newsom out of office by a 56-35 margin.
It looks as if Newsom may be history soon.
What does it all mean for the future of California? Is there change coming or is this a rerun of Arnold Schwarzenegger? All we got out of that recall was a GOP governor who drove the state further to the left. Looking back, we may have been better off keeping Governor Gray Davis and running against his bad policies.
Of course, 2021 is not 2003. I don't know anyone who is happy with the politics of California. How can you support a total breakdown in the rule of law, from tolerating shoplifting to letting people live in the streets? Add to all of this very high taxes and it's only natural for Californians to ask what in the world they are paying taxes for?
So let's hope that Larry Elder can deliver a message and break down the left's super majorities. At least, they can't call Elder a racist but they probably will anyway.

Trump is still living rent free in their heads
President and Mrs. Trump left town months ago. Normally, the guy who loses sort of disappears from the conversation. After all, he lost. Yet, Democrats can't stop talking about # 45. What's going on?
According to a very interesting article by David Catron, the Democrats are really worried:
First, a reality check concerning the 2020 election: Biden didn’t win a popular vote landslide as the Democrats still claim. According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) totals, he won 81,268,924 of 158,383,403 ballots cast.
In other words, 77,114,479 people voted for Trump or one of the third-party candidates. That nearly 49 percent of the voters cast ballots against Biden, despite the unprecedented support he received from the media and Big Tech cannot fail to worry rational Democrats.
Nor can they help being unnerved by a poll conducted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that strongly suggests their anemic 2020 congressional showing portends worse results in 2022.
By the way, the aforementioned poll shows Democrats falling behind Republicans by a half-dozen points on a generic ballot in battleground districts. Again, we are talking about battleground districts.
Trump's candidate in the special election in Texas did not win. However, both ran radio ads supporting Trump all the way. It came down to Jake Ellzey being a better candidate winning. I would have voted for Ellzey if I lived in that district.
In Ohio, Trump's candidate did win.
My view is that the Ohio election is a better indication of President Trump's influence, but it's early. The former president has accumulated a lot of money for the fight. Don't underestimate the value of cash in battleground districts.
Of course, the best thing going for President Trump is Biden's policies: gasoline and everything else going up, the collapse of the U.S.-Mexico border and now the virus is throwing everyone a nasty curve ball.
So Trump lives rent free in their heads and they can't evict him.

Portugal is so nice this time of the year
The Texas legislators on a mission in Washington are once again in the news for something that has nothing to do with voting rights. This is from Texas Scoreboard and was also on the metro section of the Dallas Morning News. The two legislators are Reps. Julie Johnson (Carrollton) and Jessica Gonzalez (Dallas):
Requests for comment to both the offices of Johnson and Gonzales thus far received no response.
If some Democrat House members have indeed fled for Europe, it would be the latest in a series of high-profile missteps since they left for D.C. on July 12.
Since departing for the trip with a case of Miller Lite in tow, several members have contracted COVID-19, and Dallas Democrats solicited care packages of soda and candy to send to their runaway House members.
In all of their time in D.C., the lawmakers have still failed to secure a meeting with President Joe Biden, let alone influence the U.S. Senate to take up and consider legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives called the “For the People Act” -- reforming elections at the federal level.
Though Democrats have not signaled an imminent plan for return, Speaker Phelan and the House have for weeks failed to take any meaningful action to compel their attendance -- including stripping committee chairmanships from Democrats and fining them for their absence.
Again, Portugal is such a nice place to visit anytime of the year not just April like the famous tune. And "Lisboa Antigua" was one of my mother's favorite songs. Walking in Lisbon and enjoying a sidewalk café is just what a legislator on a mission to save our voting rights should be doing.
Last, but not least, did the ladies tell the immigration authorities in Portugal that they were hanging around with a group of people infected with COVID?
